In the future I will be looking for a pair of closed headphones to go along with my open set. I have a Sennheiser HD590 and I am satisfied. Within Sennheiser, is the HD280 Pro the way to go for a closed set (circumaural)? Are there any glaring differences that I should know about, and in general, is it worth getting in addition; would I enjoy having one of each or is it unlikely that I would see any real value? I don't really want to pay a lot if it would be like buying a duplicate set; I want something that is different, but at the same time just as good albeit in its own unique ways.

I have both and enjoy their differences. The 590's have more upper bass, the 280's more lower bass. The 280's isolate really well so in a loud environment they're quite nice. The 280's have much better mids and less emphasis on the highs. The 590 is far more detailed yet can be extreamly fatiguing the 280's for me are seldom if ever fatiguing.

That said, I may be selling most of my headphones soon as I've recently got E5's and some nice speakers.

The E5's take care of the times I need to be quiet or have isolation and sound better than all my other headphones combining most of their best attributes.

ixeo is right though, source first. At least get yourself a E-MU 0404 and a decent amp, then worry about more headphones.
