So are these a replacement for the standard HD25? Because the Amperiors are now discontinued, makes sense to shift it over to the DJ side of things while we wait for an eventual successor that fits with consumers.

I now feel like a sucker for dishing out the premium price on my Amperior, given how nice the case that ships with the HD25 Aluminium Edition looks. Will the case be sold separately?
I'm actually more than happy with the Amperior (love the sound quality and the sound signature as well) but I really wish that I had a case for them.

That said, dear Sennheiser, go fix your webpage us version of the new 26 pros. There are so many spelling mistakes its not even funny.I wrote Senn via facebook but it seems nobody ever checks that page. Beyer answers all posts btw, take an example.

Pardon Rosmadi, but do you have any information at all about that possible larger earcupped version that jfunk alluded to?  I sure hope this exists as I liked my hd-25 quite a bit, and loved my amperiors, but had to end up selling them as they pinched my ear to my glasses.  A large earcupped version of the amperior is pretty much my dream headphone.

The primary sound difference between the Amperior and the HD-25 25th Anniversary Edition (hereinafter defined as "25AE") seems to be the driver.  
 
Other than the Amperior's being easy to drive (and woefully loud -- on my iPod 5G, there's no such thing as headroom, since you can still hear music at the lowest setting), what are the other differences?  Are there significant sound differences between the 25AE and the Amperior?
 
What's mildly amusing is this: the Amperior was said to be an improved-sounding version of the HD-25, yet the 25AE is being marketed as returning to the same high-quality sound of the original HD 25-II ("70 ohm pro drivers"!) -- now with the benefit of aluminum cups.  
 
Which is it -- is the Amperior's driver better than the 25AE's or worse?

IMHO I preferred the HD25 I-II's over the Amperiors. With a slightly warmer sound I thought the Amperiors were aimed for the average consumer. This article by headfonia (http://www.headfonia.com/the-amperior-and-the-momentum-and-the-hd25-1/) was a really good read and I would probably side more with Mike's opinion on the matter. If I were to ranked them I would probably go I-II>Amperiors>Momentums. Though if you were to give me any of those 3 and dont tell me the presence of the other I'll probably be satisfied.
 
The starter of this thread,jfunk (I think this is Jason, if not Joe) does this mod to the HD25 I-II's called the Uber mod that I think is a mod that everyone should at least try once. Basically what he does is he adds a little mass to the enclosure (for slightly more bass) but to balance em out he covers some of the bass port. What you get is slightly more bass extension without the boomyness you would think that you'll get from adding that mass. The wire is also changed (to SPC, if not mistaken) from the stock steel cable so its treble to my ears were much much clearer. I have to clarify that I'm the type that notice slight differences in sound for different cables but seriously steel to SPC was a huge jump. Not subtle at all. And for the amount charged I thought it was real value for money. Customer service from them (CustomCans) were top notch and were very responsive.
 
I personally haven't heard the Aluminiums and I will if I get the chance. But for now I'm happy with mine. Though the new pads sound very interesting.

I absolutely agree about the cable change. The steel cable vs any cheap copper cable (HD600/650) is really easy to detect even in a  blindtest and proves that cables indeed have a sound to them.
