hi there, it's my first post here...

i don't have any headphones so i intend to get one soon...

which one of these two will you all recommend ?

i mostly listen to Rock/Metal and sometimes Rap...

i'm planning to use them with my Sony Hi-Fi & Sony MD Portable, at home most of the time... so isolation is not the most important thing...

i also have my eye on the Beyerdynamic DT231s but i can't get them unfortunately...

i only can get the Sennheiser HD212 Pros or the HD497s and they're nearly the same price...

any help/recommendations would be greatly appreciated... =)

thanks,

I've just ordered the HD 497 actually... I'll have it in a few weeks, so I'll let you know how they are (if you can wait that long... probably two weeks

)

I'm not sure about comparisons, though... hopefully some more experienced folks on this forum will tell you.

212 doesnt sound as good as the 497 at all i think. the 212 has boomy bass and screetchy highs without much detail, if i remember right. i would recommend the 497 or the koss ksc-35

I haven't taken the 212 apart, and I didn't with the 497 when I had it, but I wonder if if making the 212 is literally a case of sticking on the closed-back plastic shell - the black bit - onto the 497's earcups?

yes it is.

If you want something well behaved, go for the 497.

Thank you very very much... =))

i was afraid of not getting a quick & clear reply...

P.S. that was the reason i posted my question on Head-Fi and not T-Board but i got my answer from a T-Board user... =)) sorry guys but T-Board is the king... =)

i'll get the HD497s & MX500s from Dealznet.com (Total: $58 + Shipping) and have them shipped to a relative in the US... =)

I have the 497's and can vouch for their sound quality. I think they have a sweeter midrange than the 495's and HD-600's, although, the bass seems to be a bit flabby. However, I always have to mention the comfort factor. These phones are very tight on my head. (I guess I've got a big noggin.) I've stretched the band, but they always return to the original size. (memory)

Just thought you should know.
