Sennheiser HD 700 Impressions Thread

About a month into my hd 700 with around 50 hours on them and really liking what I hear. I still think my hd600 and akg712 sound great and will hang onto them because I find there sound more consistent over many types of music but when the recording has good synergy with the hd 700s it's clearly better to my ears. I still think the hd 600s are the best value at there current price but if you've been there and done that and can get the hd 700s for 500 or less its a nice buy . Currently using uberfrost/asgard 2 ( I miss owning the gungnir it really is better than the bifrost) and with a better amp the hd 700 will just get better.

I really do think at this point it's the asgard 2 that's holding this headphone back.

I would agree with this, the Asgard2 was too bright IMO, best I've found with the HD-700 is the Project Ember for music but Lyr2 for watching movies due to the wider sound stage.

Only if it has it in the recording like lots of old 50 jazz, Coltrane, duke, etc. but zero coming from the amp/headphone. Silent when not playing

Thanks, I've been considering the Woo WA22 but I know at shows I've heard audible amp hiss on the headphones from Woo amps.

Otl amp seem to have more hiss with the 700s. Wa2/wa3 maybe others, that I've noticed. None with 600/650s

This could be due to the HD-700 being only 150ohm vs the HD-600/650/800 being 300ohm.  For me the HD-700 sounds best on a Ember, better than on the Crack or Lyr2 for me while the HD-650/800 that I have pair best with the Crack.

Yes I'd say that is way.

Crack is a great match also for 650. Don't have 800 yet so I'll take your word for it.

I had some reservations about how the HD700 would sound with the Crack, but with a 12BH7 driver and
a Chatham 2399 it sounds wonderful! Layered, huge soundstage and very little brightness even with Anne
Sophie Mutter on violin.
Hibuck...
