Sennheiser HD 700 Impressions Thread

I got mine today as well and they've seriously blown me away compared to the X1's, I thought bass may be lacking but I'd say it's even better than the X1's are for clarity and punch. Separation on instruments is epic and pronounced vocals were giving me goosebumps. I've bought an O2/ODAC dac/amp unit to replace my STX, I've heard it's about as balanced and transparent you can get for a combo and I thought instead of trying to make the 700's warmer like I'd originally planned I want them to be as close to their original sound as possible otherwise I may as well of bought other headphones :)

Not to discourage your plans, but I wouldn't use O2/ODAC with HD700. A lot of people have reported that this pairing isn't good and will produce sharp, piercing treble, along with a thin sound.

You should stick to some of the suggestions made here in this thread with regards to which amps pair well with HD700. Up to you if you want to go with O2/ODAC, but don't say I didn't warn you.

Most of the suggestions I can't source in the UK and I've read others have used the O2/ODAC with the 700's fine...

I guess I'll find out tomorrow.

What do you mean 'source'? You can get most companies to ship directly to you internationally. Here's Schiit's international shipping FAQs:

They even have a distributor in the UK.

International shipping can take weeks then I can get stung by customs charges.

I was actually going to order the Schiit Modi2/Vali combo but the Vali was out of stock from the UK supplier and they replied to an email saying it won't be back in stock for weeks.

I'm disappointed now because I expect this O2/ODAC to be terrible :frowning2:

I've used headphones regularly for many years but never realized how important comfort is until I got used to the HD700's it's hard to tolerate most others now.

One reason to hate them.

Come on, it's not that bad. Some of us like a shrieking treble........... :)

Been listening to the 700's now for a few hours with the O2/ODAC and I'm loving it :)

If you're happy with it, then that's all that matters. Enjoy the HD700.

Demo'ed the HD800's with the O2/ODAC and it was horrific. The O2 pulled the 800's down so much, to the point that it was unbearable.

I apologize if this has already been asked/answered but would a FiiO E17 be enough to power the HD 700's? I've read yes

Well the 800's are 300 ohm and from what I've read the O2 works best with 150 ohm headphones.

Isn't it well regarded that to get the best from 800's you need to spend a lot on an amp/dac anyway?

Does anyone use the HD 700 for gaming? I currently use the HD 598 and I like it a lot, but 700 always seems to get rave reviews for its comfort, which is a very important factor for me

Not a gamer but depending on your source and amplification the overall sound signature is very similar, the comfort/fit is better with the 700s but if your main output is direct off a computer or soundcard you may actually be better off sticking with the 598s, but long term comfort the 700s win.

I have found the HD-800's are very picky with amps, originally used my Lyr2 and Project Ember and it didn't sound good, finally built a BH Crack and what a difference.  The HD-700 being lower impedance (150 Ohms iirc) is okay on the BH Crack but IMO sounds better on the Ember.
