Hey guys,

So after like a year of leaving my HD700 in the box, i opened them up today to have a listen and realised the headband pads have started to deteriorate (small black flakes come off when i rub them with my fingers). However, I can't seem to find anyone selling this replacement part (in stock). Do i have no choice but to buy directly from Sennheser?

I ordered it from Sennheiser via telephone. One representative said it was out of stock while the other said it was on backorder. I told them to place the order and see if it goes through, but I will not know until it ships or I get a cancellation notice. Make sure to specify headband PAD and not headband itself. The headband itself is $90 while the pad is $10.

Have you guys tried Sony MUC cable on HD700?

They may fit? I'm not very sure..
they will NOT fit, if you look at the HD700 jacks they have a flat area on the collar to better hold the 2.5mm jack in place. If you find 2.5mm jacks they need to have a long slim collar area to fit the HD700 but its not as secure a connection, I'd recommend finding cables with proper HD700 jacks.

How about OPPO PM1 and PM2 cables? Don't you think they will fit HD 700?

They look identical to HD 700's connectors!

I don't think they will fit. Here is a picture of HD700 and long barrel 2.5mm that will fit:

HD700 on far right, 2.5mm with long barrel 2nd from right. You can see the flat spot on HD700 connector and only a slim long barrel 2.5 will fit. Other connectors shown: L to R: HD800, SMC and MMCX

Yeah, the 2.5mm connectors are sort of semi-proprietary. Most run-of-the-mill 2.5mm connectors won't fit For example, the stock 2.5mm cable for my Hifiman 400i will fit in the HD700 connectors but will not extend deeply enough to work (although the stock HD700 cable will work with the 400i). The cable connectors do not necessarily need the flat bit to work, but as DavidA notes, the jack must be unusually long and thin; I have after market cables for the HD700 without the flat part from Periapt and Ursine (though this latter cable no longer works--the cable frayed at the connector within a few months and worked with tape for another 15 months or so until dying; I had quality control issues with both cables I bought from Ursine, which does not appear to be in business ATM).

I use a cheap, third-party cable most often with my HD700, it's branded NEOMUSICA, purchased from Amazon in December 2017, but it's already no longer available, but it was marketed for the HD 700 and has that same little flat area that the stock cables have, so it's pretty close to a perfect yet.

I'd be wary of any third-party cables that aren't at the least marketed for the HD 700 and have some user reviews confirming that claim.
