They need a lot of break-in.

You may want to use the search function to get all the info you want. (No citicism -- I'm just too lazy to answer at length. But I like it.)

And welcome to Head-Fi!

If you're familiar with the way Senn HD580 and 600 sound, the 650's have a similar sonic signature. However, I find them to be more neutral, slightly more refined, less lush less "full" sounding. That plays into their neutrality. I like them quite a bit.

It isn't a bad place to start. And some folks say it's the end place too. So go for it, and if you hate them, give them a while to burn in, if you still hate them you can resell them here for a good price and pick up a Grado!

I heard a set of HD650s both with stock cable and with Silver Dragon upgrade cable at Rocky Mountain Audio Fest and both were quite good. They have a more full bass than the HD600 and sounded a bit smoother overall. I was surprised that I actually liked them with the stock cable since I didn't like the HD600 too much with stock cable when I had them. They did seem to tend towards a bit excessive bass for my tastes, which I imagine a lot of people will like, but otherwise were pretty good. Definately worthwhile IMHO over the HD600.

Will I notice an immidiate sound quality difference when I use this on my iPod and Soundcard on my pc (Audigy ZS)?

Probably, but you really do need an amp with those cans to get the most out of them. At the very least get a PIMETA or Headsave Classic (haven't heard the latter, but it seems well-regarded here) if you must save money. I heard the HD650s with a few different Singlepower models and they did well with all of them. The HeadRoom amps seem to be (or at least used to be) popular choices with the HD6xx series also.

in this case, get a pair of audio technica a900s and never come back

. you need a decent amp and a nice source to make good use of the hd650s.

I absolutely love the sound of my 650s, greatest thing in the world.

If you arent willing to spend the money on a decent amplifier and a good source then I wouldnt even bother, though, because they require quite a bit to get them going to their full potential. Like others said, they require a lot of time to break-in as well, so be sure to give them at least 150 hours.

So I'm better off with the A900's for use with my mp3 player and such? I'm just really looking for a nice sounding "ampless" headphone set. I started checking out bose but they are overpriced and frankly not worth the money...(I hear).

Let's get some more opinions if possible. I only have $350'ish to spend.

EDIT: And decent ampless bass is a must

Thanks

The Audigy 2 ZS in terms of a source is severaly lacking. You need a better system then the Audigy 2 to realize the benefit of the 650s. If you plan to get the best cans now and upgrade your source later, then get the 650s. But if you plan to stick to your computer as a source, I highly recommend you split the difference and get cans in the $150-$200 range and spend the rest on an amp or upgrading the source.

IMO, of course. That's what I did anyways. Purchased the HD595s and a Headsave GoVibe and couldn't be happier.

One guy here wrote that HD650 are as good or better than R10,Omega2 and Qualia.Everyone here selling his CD3ks for HD650.I'm getting curious about how can a $350 headphone be that good.It would have to be immensly better than HD600,wich i used to have and thought were inferior to CD3ks,especially in soundstage and treble detail.
