What is the difference between the two, other than price?

I've heard that the 650s are a bit more smoth, and dark in the sound. Is that true?

I like rock, indie rock and alternative. I like bass in my headphones, but not too much.

It will also depend on the headphone amp. 
But overall the HD600 are more suited for faster pace than the HD650.

Amps should not greatly change the sound of a set of headphones. The biggest difference is in the headphones themselves. Amps makes subtle differences in headphones.

can anyone explain the diff btw hd650 and hd600 for female vocal music ?
