If I have an ASUS STX, do I really need another DAC?  Do you think I'd see more of a difference going with a dedicated amp over an amp/DAC combo?

The STX is an excellent DAC, so you're covered on that front.  A dedicated headphone amp would be the better option for you than a DAC/amp combo. Here are a few suggestions for ya:

JDS Labs or Epiphany Acoustics O2 headphone amp

Schiit Audio Asgard, Magni

Yulong A100

These are all neutral, transparent, well regarded headphone amps.

yep, i'm a senn 600 lover... i try other phones, but i always come back to senns...  i drive them with an o2 amp and the centrance lx.

that said, i hate the 10 foot cable!  i always have this wad of cable next to me.

i would love to replace it with a shorter cable - say, 4ft-6ft.  but all the short cables are expensive boutique stuff for $100+.  does anyone know of a sub-6ft cable for $50 or less?

why don't you just use some cheap contraption to tie down the cable a little?

I'd put up a want add in the cable section of the for sale/wanted. You should be able to purchase one from someone who has good feedback here for $30-40.

Or this could be a great intro to modding. You could buy a Sennheiser replacement cable an iron and a 1/4 or 1/8 phono plug and simply cut the cable to your desired length and solder your connector.  I'd suggest leaving an extra foot so that if the process goes awry you can chop it and try again or just have someone do it for you.

Does anybody knows the difference between ALO audio's SXC 18 cable and 18 JenaLabs Cryo cable!?
Personally, I'm prefer more flat sounds, which one I should get?
Or there is any other recommandation?
Thanks!

Looks like about $20.  Get the prettier one and once you get them PM me. I'd like to talk to you about some magic beans I have for sale.

How does the "neutrality" of the HD600 compares to the "neutrality" of DT880/600? I currently have the DT880s and really want to try  the hd600s, and if the 600s are laid back compared to the 880s I might give them a go, I'm not trying to upgrade, just find what I like the best, I love the 880s but I want to see what else is out there

Thanks!

While they sound very different, I think they are roughly equivalently "neutral".  Perhaps the HD600 is very slightly more bass emphasized.

Thanks, I'll try to audition them and if I like them enough I'll try to get a pair, keep them and the DT880s, and stay away from head-fi for a while
