Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread

I really enjoy the Lyr 3 with HD600 / HD6XX (and a few other h/p). I started with 6SN7 tubes then veered to 2 x 6C5 or 2 x 6J5. The increased spatiality is captured well by the Sennheisers. To augment / deepen the bass a little, the tubes are Ken-Rads. ☑️

You're probably the only one who read the latest doc. In the manuals I got with my Valhalla 2 and Lyr 2 they didn't list either input nor output impedance. I never even tried running my 600s off the Lyr 2. Now it's boxed up waiting to sell so I probably never will.

The specs are on the website. In my case, they did not come on any sheets with the Lyr 3 or the Valhalla 2 themselves. 🤷🏻‍♂️

The specs were not on the website when I bought mine 4-5 years ago. And even when I wrote their "support" I was told I was asking irrelevant questions and that those specs didn't matter. So I'm willing to bet their life the specs were added later and that I might even be partially to blame

Never heard of it, and it's the wrong headband pad.

The HD600 came with the four bump headband pad right? I don't think that really matters. In my experience the four bump pad is harder to find though I may prefer it over the two bump one. I have the four bump pad on my HD6XX.

In any event here is a comparison I found of the silk screen and later versions of the HD600. http://audioslams.com/audio/6XOBreakdown_600Series_AcousticScreens.pdf
I don't remember the count but yeah they are a few squares instead of the HD 650 pad, which is what this looks like. I was not familiar with that version and I thought maybe it was a custom job or even a fake rather than factory. I am still not sure. Anyway, the 600 pad is a factory part, I don't know about lately but I was able to buy one from Thomann or customcans a while back.

Thanks for the PDF link, that looks interesting. I know I have seen the info on driver differences somewhere, probably here on the forums.

It's really bonkers how there are so many variations just in the baffle material alone.

It kind of makes sense now how people have been arguing about the same headphone for like 20+ years.

And probably for another 20 more years about the paper vs silk vs metal

Does anybody know why the replacement HD600 ear pads are out of stock everywhere in EU? I can't seem to find a store that would have them for sale. Sennheiser online shop says that they are sold out, Thomann says that they won't have them in stock for 3 months, and the biggest online audio gear shop in my country hasn't had them in stock since December 2021.

There are other surprises at Thomann as well, like they no longer carry the Mutec MC-3+ USB model, but they carry the non-USB model. And they've ditched some other Mutec products as well. This is troubling.

As far as Sennheiser pads, I think somebody upthread said there's a problem making the pads due to lack of oil.

Can't we... can't we all get along?

HD600 is still one of the best mid ranges I have heard. Sounds so realistic. It doesnt have good bass reproduction and lacks some micro details but they are amazing ...

Listening them out of the Dave and just enjoying the music. :)
