I had originally bought the fenestrated sheepskin because they look and feel totally boss (and they work great on my old 580 precisions), but I found that the 600s sounded way too polite with them and much preferred the sound with the original velour pads. When I told, Tal Kocen (president of the company), I was unhappy and why, he suggested I try the hybrid pads instead, because his feedback was that the hybrid pads are the favorite for the HD-600. I think they have a great synergy - all the dynamic life is back and, to my ear, they now have a more open, resolving sound than with the stock pads. On top of that, I find the Dekoni pads are much more comfortable long term. To me they are a worthwhile way to spend ~$50, even if you don’t need new pads.

Yeah, now the packaging looks like those AKG headphones. Cheaper looking definitely. But I need to have a clearer look again to be sure.

I have never had AKG headphones so I do not know what the packaging looks like. In any case it seems the "old" HD600 is on sale now on Amazon for $299 US or $451 Canadian for me on Amazon Canada.

I bought new on Amazon for $250 long time ago and don’t need a new one since I just bought a new set of new balanced cable that helps the SQ improving nicely.

Well I have the 6XX and 58X and now the Focal Elex. However I'm still very curious about the HD600. The Elex sounds great but they are not comfortable for long listening sessions. The Sennheiser 6 series is very comfortable for long listening sessions. I do find that the Elex sound is even more open and detailed than either of the Sennheisers I have.
