Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread

Well I don't know if I'm the first one but since I got Dekoni hybrid pads and have applied little DSP magic thru Roon, I'm spending more time with my 600 and 800s is sitting at cornor.
I feel if you listen to not so great recordings then using 800 becomes a painful experience and with processed signal and new pad I m spending more time with my 600.

The HD600 is what brought me into this game and I've stayed with it through thick and thin. I go back and forth atm between an HE-4XX and my old Sennheisers but tbh putting the HD600 back on feels like coming home. Only headphone that could make me forget them is the HE-1 :) , thank god that is out of my price range by a few magnitudes.

So you guys are sure that there is no channel mismatch for your HD600? I'm trying to get an idea if this is a common problem as Tyll's measured representive version even has channel imbalance! Was this purely bad luck, and what are the chances of this bad luck?

I find it very difficult to detect channel imbalances on headphones. My ears aren't perfectly matched (who's are?!), and the problem is exacerbated when I do hard left-right panning on headphones to check for channel imbalances (doing this makes me feel a bit weird as if it's throwing off my inner-ear balance, kind of like when you're on a plane and the sound becomes very thin and tinny). So I often need to reverse the headset on my head as a double-check for both ears, but of course when you do this, you are never going to be able to put the headset back on your head in the exact same position, so this is another variable that could affect the perception of channel imbalance.

Conversely, my ears are extremely reliable at detecting channel imbalances in my loudspeakers, presumably this is because the sound is coming from a distance in front of me and both of my ears are working in harmony as they normally would be.

I do not have channel imbalance with my unit and same with my 650.

Do a slow sine wave frequency sweep and see if the sound remains in the center or not.

Have used this for years. Channel identification and phasing tracks instantly show center image and phase (using Ralph the dog). Cans or speakers.
