Sennheiser HD 600 Causing Immense Pressure and Pain

Jan 4, 2017 at 5:24 PM Post #16 of 32
Theres a like new pair for sale now for 155.00 in the used section

Volume isnt the issue, controlling the bottom end is tho...dont know anything about motherboards,so cant advise.

If you do end up going for the 880s grab the 80 or 250 ohm version...80ohm will be easier to drive.

I'm not worrying about the amp, it's one of the main reasons I chose it. Some one else also seems to like it http://www.head-fi.org/t/754695/asrock-z97-e-itx-ac-outperforms-my-bifrost-and-crack-hd-600

And I don't believe I'll be going for the Beyerdynamics because of their fatiguing treble and bright characteristics, even if they are comfortable. The HD 600 was supposed to be both comfortable and not fatiguing, so I'm at a loss here. Anyways, thanks for your help. I don't mean to take up anymore of your time with my issue. I honestly don't know where to go from here, other then to try them out again. Otherwise, returning them will mean I won't have a good lead on a headphone that I'd be glad to use daily for many years forward. But that's my problem alone. I'll make sure to keep your suggestion of the K7XX in mind, though. Thanks.

I edited my last post, have a look for the weight of each...

I agree with the treble issues of the DT line, though the K7XX is a bit brighter than 600s too,but doesnt seems to have the spikes and sibilance that the DT line does.

Good luck man!

obviously up to each person to decide for themselves for me I don't find the treble a problem on my DT880's :: IF:: the source material is recorded decently and I am using a amp that has a warmer sound..

with my DV336SE tube amp... for myself I have entered audio nirvana with the DT880's

I do think some beyer's are WAAAY too bright.. /cough DT990 ...T90's /cough  but for me the DT880's are great w/ the proper amp..  my vintage Kenwood receiver is also quite nice w/ the DT880's

Geez, that amp is expensive! I'll keep that in mind though, about pairing the DT880 with a warmer amp. But best case for me would be if I could make the HD 600's work for me somehow.

I've now worn the HD 600's for an extended amount of time, and even with the metal bands bent pretty extensively, with the headphone extended much farther than normal, and with me messing around with the positioning of the headband foam from the back to the front of the top of my head, I can say the problem is still there. I feel a massive headache coming on. I've also reduced the volume to very low to see if the volume was just irritating me. It's certainly more comfortable to have a lower volume like that, perhaps because I've always listened at relatively low volumes, but it certainly didn't fix the pressure.

Thus, I've just removed the headband foam and will report back on how that goes. It's feeling a lot better as I right this, so I've got high hopes. Fingers crossed.

And now, after wearing the HD 600's for more than an hour even without the headband foam padding, I've decided to return them on Amazon for a refund (glad it wasn't too late). Wearing them without the headband foam padding did feel A LOT more comfortable at first, and I thought I found my solution, but then the pressure and subsequent pain started to gradually come up on me. Thus I've had enough of it and filed a return on Amazon. I will hopefully see a doctor about this sometime, but whatever it is, I hope I can buy a new headphone without this sort of headache (pun intended) again. The HD 600's were certainly good headphones, and I wish to have kept them, but the throbbing pain I got from wearing them wasn't worth it for me. Although I certainly don't want to give the HD 600's any rap, as this seems to be just a first-world problem with my imported skull from Chernobly. I literally haven't seen anyone else complain about pain or headaches from the HD 600's, let alone any headphone, due to comfort or whatever, so that's why I wanted to post this. Hopefully it helps someone else, but I doubt it seeing as to how I'm the only one complaining... Shucks, guess it's time to search for a new pair yet again.

Regarding the dt880's. You can swap pads also with the brainwaves angled pads and they tame the treble a bit, but I believe you lose a bit of detail. Agree with the warm amp as I use a custom otl & the bw2. Probably get the 880's in excellent shape for 175-200

Could you perhaps clarify what amp(s) you're using with your DT880? I'm now interested in them again, so I want to see what my options are. Preferably a cheap amp that can warm the sound of the DT880, as I don't have or want to spend more than the $260 I payed for my new HD 600's.

Are we even on the same Amazon!? The 250 Ohm can be found new for $170 on Amazon, and the 600 Ohm can be found new for $169. Those are the lowest prices, but the following prices are still similar.

Nevermind, the 250 Ohm was for the DT990. The DT880 250 Ohm is $250, like you said. But at least the 600 Ohm is still cheap.

Well, I might or might not have found the root cause of my headaches and what not; too much screen time, or something like that. I've been wearing earphones last night because my lighter headphones started giving me the same sort of headache pain, and today, even with the earphones, I've still contracted a headache today. So whatever it is, and it's likely too much screen time, it's certainly not the Sennheiser's fault. So I'll be canceling my return, and hopefully I'll be able to wear the HD 600's sometime soon.

So moral of the story? Take a break every once in a while.

Dont get the hd650. Theyre basically the same in terms of comfort.

I really disliked the 650/600 in terms of comfort. However i got the hd700 which is the most comfortable headphone ive ever tried. SO id suggest you too check them out.
