HD7 and HD8 sounded the same to me. Prob makes money sense to go with HD7 since they are cheaper.

The k550s are not very good. HD558s are open back while HD7 DJ are closed. 558's should have the bigger soundstage. How bout AKG 550, someone really helpful on headfi linked me to a good deal on a set, I've heard nothing but good things about the soundstage, and that was one of the main things I was looking for in my next pair of headphones

I'm a new here,so just thanks for sharing!
Gotta post more soon!
After Newport...
But I'm bringin' this rig to T.H.E Headphonium for sure!
I'm lovin the 7 even more than I did at CES!!
The midrange is silky-smooth, it isolates very well on my skull
,
both frequency extremes are clean and engaging.
and the overall experience leaves me listening for long periods of time!!
And I haven't even tried the comfy earpads YET!!
LOVE comfy's
they're just a BLAST!

What is the connector on the headphone earcup? Would it be possible to get a momentum cable to work with these?

YES! I don't know the termination name - but I'm using my Double Helix Cables Molecule Elite here by @scootermafia for my Momentums on the HD7s!
Hi everyone,
The Sennheiser HD8 DJ, HD7 DJ and HD6 MIX headphones have received the prestigious Red Dot Design Award for product design. I've copied the press release below:
Impeccable sound quality meets excellent design
Sennheiser’s new DJ headphone range wins Red Dot Design Award
Wedemark/Essen, 21 May 2014 – The Sennheiser headphones HD8 DJ, HD7 DJ and HD6 MIX have received the prestigious Red Dot Design Award for product design. Awarded annually by a jury of experts, the Red Dot is awarded to products whose excellent design sets them apart.
Evaluating a total of 4,815 products submitted by 1,816 international manufacturers, designers and architects, the jury of 40 product design specialists was impressed with the design of the headphones, which supports their impeccable sound quality. Sennheiser has engineered the DJ headphone range from durable, high-quality materials to take even the roughest professional use. “We developed the HD8 DJ, HD7 DJ and HD6 MIX for DJs who expect their headphones to withstand the rigours of daily studio work and a life on the road without wanting to compromise on their aesthetics,” said Ivan Kuan, Head of Product Management, Sennheiser Consumer Electronics. “Therefore, we are delighted our dedication to the headphones’ design is now being recognized by the judges of the Red Dot Design Award”.
Designed to move crowds
Designed in conjunction with some of the world’s biggest DJs such as Luciano, Bob Sinclar and Davina, the HD8 DJ, HD7 DJ and HD6 MIX are manufactured to meet the needs of professional DJs down to the smallest detail. Characterized by their high build quality, the DJ and mixing headphone range provides complete user comfort for hours at the decks, whether in the studio or when moving crowds at gigs. For hassle-free one-ear monitoring, both DJ models feature swivelling ear cups with up to 210° of movement and three different wearing positions. The elliptical shape of the ear cups avoids pinching the ears and is enhanced by interchangeable ear pads made from soft velour and a leatherette material for comfortable listening during long periods of use. The coiled and straight oxygen-free copper cables can be attached to either ear cup via gold-plated connectors.
The headphone range as well as the other products awarded the Red Dot, will be showcased at the annual Design on stage exhibition at Red Dot Design Museum in Essen, Germany, from 8 July to 3 August 2014. With 4,000 square metres, the museum hosts the world's largest exhibition of contemporary design.

The award focuses on three categories: product design, communication design and design concept, which are each judged independently. In the product design category, an international expert jury evaluates the submitted products on the basis of their degree of innovation, functionality, formal quality, ergonomics, durability, symbolic and emotional content, product periphery, self-explanatory quality and ecological compatibility in a total of 23 categories.

Today my HD8's where delivered to the radio station where I work, so here are my "First Impressions"....
- Just like everyone says: GREAT build quality, with a very tactile quality
- I like the way they feel when I put them on AND when I'm just holding them
- Since I am usually rushing to put them on before broadcast, and rushing to take them off after a segment, it's nice that there are so many joints that give easily
- Bassy? ha, yep... I almost feel like I'm a kid with one of those headphones that Apple just bought lol
- Packaging is great, storage zipper case is nice!
- They really give you bang-for-your-buck with the extra ear-pads, the two cables, and that is how it should be!

NICE!!!!
Yeah I loved the 8s - just found the lower midrange in the 7s a little sweeter and closer to my beloved HD 25-1 IIs!
But those should be wicked for radio stuff!
I'm rockin em w/ my McIntosh D100 right now and it sounds fantastic!
Bumpin the new Atmosphere LP - Southsiders and the soundstage is widening as they break-in - plus the bass response
is getting even more punchy and tight. The mids are crisp - and they are KILLER in your hands!
Bringin' em to T.H.E Headphonium at T.H.E Show Newport end of the month for SURE!!!!
Thanks Mike! Glad you're liking them

Any headphone measurements of these? I'm particularly interested in the HD6 Mix.

Using my calibrated Smyth Realiser -mics in ear, zero compensation. Measured with perfect fit on my head, so includes small HRTF/pinna-effect, but bass etc will be true to life. Driven by Benchmark DAC2.
These are stock pleather pads. I've also measured the velour ones, there aren't really differences outside error margings, so not included here. Small graph is unsmoothed. For anyone interested, I'm providing whole full REW measurement mdats (link).
THD etc are excellent, at around 90dB, less than ~0.2% everywhere. Even 20hz at ~0.5%. No ringing etc seen.
For reference, comparison with HD800 and Aurvana Live. So uh yeah we are looking at -10dB comparatively >3kHz. Which of course is not a bad thing for your hearing, when banging EDM at high volumes.. (edit: added HD600 comparo)
Isolation looks super effective. Tried also HD7 with velour pads, isolates maybe slightly less by few dB.
Also some 30hz and 300hz square waves like Tyll does:
Here's graphs.
