Hello, I'm purchasing a new PMP (Archos 605-160gig) and also need new headphones on-the-go, preferably similar to the 595s or the 595s themselves.

I recently saw them on amazon.com at 160$(shipping included) so I am kind of inclined on buying them.

My questions are:
Would the 595s be a decent portable set?(As in, I could keep my PMP in my pocket and simply throw them around the neck, btw, the 10 foot cable is kind of intimidating.)

and

Are there any competitors at that price?

Thanks for your time.
I'll be awaiting a response..hopefully
cya :-)

The 595s are kind of big, and them being open backed means you'll get a lot of noise from the environment leaking in, not to mention the possibility of annoying anyone who might be sitting next to you.

If you're looking for the high-end Sennheiser sound in a headphone that could be used portably, check out the HD280 Pros. They're still pretty big, but they have nice noise isolation and shouldn't leak too much sound.

Haha, thanks for the info Ogresmash...I wouldn't want to be a walking jukebox now would I...:-)

The HD280 priced at 60$...I think my wallet will be quiet happy.

Any other companies offering good circumaural headphones?

The Sony MDR-V6 have been around for decades and are well known for their toughness. They sell for around $70 and are happy running without an amp.

They aren't the last word in isolation, but they are closed, and they are circumaural.

Hmmm...ok

So which is the better of the 2, the HD280 or the Sony MDR-V6?

An age-old debate. The V6s are easier to power. Just make sure you don't mistake for the V600s.

Would you consider IEMs?

I've had plenty of IEMs, I guess you can say that I'm tired of them >_<

Ah...so how about the ATH-ES7?

eh.....the 595s seem wearable(I can't afford the leak of music though)

I'm tired of IEMS!!! lol
Seriously though, I would like to have some nice cans for a change.

I'm trying to narrow it down, so these are the ones I got so far, which I'm considering.

1. Senn HD-280pro
2. ATH-ES7
3. Sony MDR-V6

(I'm looking for a pair of closed circumaurual headphones which have a low enough impedence to be played on an ARCHOS 605 pmp)
