I hope this is the right subforum for this, here goes! I bought a pair of 575's years ago for dirt cheap and I never used them much. For those who may recall, the 575s were a limited run that they stopped because the drivers cost too much to manufacture. I think they retailed for about 150. They were rotting away in a drawer until I got an idea last night. First thing first, I washed the earcups and I washed them good. You don't want to know what came out of them. I don't know how some people don't wash their hair but it was BAD. I'll spare you the rest of the details. Listening to them, they had enormous Sennheiser "veil". I don't even know if that's the right term, they were just downright muddy. Removing the plastic earcups, they sounded MUCH better in an open config. I also removed some foam that was behind the drivers by snipping out the plastic support. Good riddance. I had some mesh around, decided to cut the top of the ear cups and mount it in. Now they actually sound fairly decent for what they are, but they don't compare to my 595's or DT880/600s. As I'm trying to sell the 595s, these will make great secondary cans. I gave them a paint job and I'm pretty happy with the result.

Let me know what you think of this and also please comment if you have experience with these headphones (if there's any way to improve the sound further)!

I have the same model of senns and wanted to do something with them. Thanks for this posting (even if I find it years later). These really look good. You could have posted images/know how to replace the back with these better looking (and sounding?) grids.
