Trust your own ears more than other people's.

Give the headphones a shot and see how you like them.

Depending on what the OP means, it's no good telling someone to trust their ears when (as far as we know) he has nothing to compare these to. If you'd only ever had stock buds, both a KSC-75 and a Stax Omega would sound great, but you wouldn't know how great without trying other things or asking around.

So to answer the op's question instead of preaching to him, the HD-25-1 and II (but not the SP) are generally regarded as among the best closed portable headphones. You've made a good purchase. They sound better with a portable amp, though, so maybe in the future you might want to grab one of those as well.

You made a very good purchase in the world of portable 'phones. Eventually, you may wish to replace the original cable.........don't worry about it - you did better than a huge number of others that have preceded you.

The HD 25-13 cable is OFC and fits into the headband. But it's 3m long and got a 6.3mm plug.

which counts as requiring modification, in my book at least

I expect an industrious DIY-er could make a bit of scratch offering these modded to 1.5m w/ angled 3.5mm plugs.

The OP HD25 is HD25-1 II which comes with the steel cable.

@anthony555: pay a visit at munkonggadget store, and ask them to try the HD650's cable instead. I think you'll be happy for the improvement.
