Got the Sennheiser catalog in the mail the other day and I was just looking through it. Has anyone heard the eH 2270's? They are listed as audiophile closed back cans and I'm just wondering how they sound.

they sound OK, but not great.
They were my first pair of cans. I lived happily with it for a while until I tried a pair of beyer dt250-80

They are the same as the HD-270, and the eH2200 is the same as the HD-200, the eH1430 is the same as the HD-433, all use same drivers and same size, but just another colored can etc. So just look for reviews for them and you will find out there are better alternatives for a equally sized 'phone

The eH 2270 is as bad-sounding for the $$$ as the other Sennheisers that were designed in 1998 and introduced in 1999. You see, 1999 was a particular low point for Sennheiser - as far as the quality and performance of their new designs is concerned.

I think the two best closed Sennheiser cans are the HD280 and the HD25-1.....other than that, you'll be stuck with open phones....

are you trying to build up a sennheiser collection?

the eh2200 and 2270 are great closed cans for studio/session work. They don't emphasise any one part of the spectrum, have so-so isolation (the hd280's are better) but mostly they do a good job of making an uncolored presentation. A bit boring, perhaps, but they are not marketed towards the home listening segment.

That would pretty much be the HD-250II phone that is th best closed in the Sennheiser. The HD-280 compared, is like having a big sock inside the socks, nt making the sound muffled - but lacking all kind of punch that was intentionally put into music. An example for trying could be Scooter - **** the millenium, at 2:12, see if you get the "wham"....
