Sennheiser announced yet another line of headphones, the HD4*8 series. The company claims that the new line is optimized for use with both portable devices and home systems, while offering some interesting designs. The HD438 and 448 are said to be more balanced and detailed, while the lower-end models are more bass oriented. All headphones in the range are closed-back with the exception of the open entry-level HD408. Sennheiser says the line will be released worldwide beginning from the end of May.

Strangely, there is no photo of the HD408. Hopefully it isn't as "eye-catching" as the Skullheisers: the wave-patterned HD418 or the chromed-out HD438.

I wonder if these are in competition with Shure's new models.

I see Amazon doesn't even carry any of these for pre-order/sale. Does anyone know where any of these are being sold/available for pre-order?

Great for portable use in the winter; if they fit well, sound good and have the right price.

Infomation on the HD4*8 series is now up on Sennheiser's website.

Also, here's a pic of the HD408. Looks very familiar...

Now, here's the HD457:

I'm aware that Sennheiser has used this modular design with many other phones, including the eH series and the HD202/212, but the HD408 and 457 seem to be very similar both in appearance and specifications.

the HD438 & HD418 look like skullcandy alternatives! whacky, but cheap looking design.

Wasn't there a thread several weeks ago where some posters were suggesting that the big headphone companies started using "interesting" designs for their products? Sometimes people need to be careful of what they wish for.

I really do think that the HD428 and HD448 look great though with their understated design.
