Hi there people,

I need to connect my laptop to my Sennheiser 555s. This would be a portable rig so I can't have an amp running on mains or batteries. I'm looking for a USB based solution which should be decent enough to drive the 555s at decent quality and medium volume (I don't play loud). As you all know, laptop audio is not so good and I had the M-audio Transit in mind. However I've read somewhere in the forum that this is great for carrying digital audio to an external dac but the headphone out is not good. What product would you people like to recommend? Or do you think that the Transit is good enough for this? I'd be playing mp3s at 192 or above or audio CDs.

Cheers,

Ricky.

Depends on your personal budget and needs.

HeadRoom Total BitHead is good all around choice.

Many others too:

Have fun. Whatever you do, it will sound better than onboard laptop sound.

(My opinion: $600 Micro DAC + portable amp is the sweet spot (no need to upgrade) for me especially with laptops. It's flexible, transportable, runs on DC power, and upgradeable with optical input. Click my link to see how it looks. Have fun

Thanks! That's a nice looking rig you have out there. However, I was looking for something a bit more... compact. Not so many wires, and DC power means you're carrying heavy batteries. I would prefer a solution that's a little more lightweight.

I'll check out your lap-fi link right away.

Ricky.
