Sennheiser 555 or Alessandro MS1? Upgrading my Senn 497!

MS-1 is definitely good for rock, and aren't too shabby for jazz either. It depends if you prefer the laid back nature of Senns or the more aggressive nature of the Alessandros.

EDIT: Ah, see you've made your choice. You wouldn't be disappointed.

I don't mean to be a prick, but I would appreciate if you didn't hijack this thread.

I wonder how close the HD415 sounds to the HD555?

hmm first of all, i just want to share my opinion here, and i don't want to get in the way of TS, sorry if my words have annoyed you

@F107plus5

i haven't heard 555, but 415 had deep bass, average mid and treble, but no match for px100 anyway

Thanks! I'm trying to learn more about the rest of the Sennheiser line, so it helps to get more opinions. Thanks again!

The MS-1 is generally regarded as fairly competent with those genres, though perhaps not if you want accentuated bass.

Yes, you can't change your internal soundcard, but you can easily work around it, for instance with a USB dac or external soundcard. There are options under $100 that could really change your listening experience, and open up the capabilities of the new headphones you're going to buy.

I find the MS-1 to be a great alternative to the SR-80 if you are worried about the head-splitting highs. I used to own the SR-80s, but the pain-factor caused me to return them. The MS-1s are 'just right' when it comes to detailed highs without crossing the pain threshold. Also, if you get MS-1s, I suggest buying bowl pads (my faves for detail) or HD414s. Both are better performers to the stock comfys IMO.

Also, a cheap workaround to your soundcard quality issue is to buy a USB external sound card such as the Turtle Beach Audio Advantage Micro (~$30 USD). Just plug it in to a USB jack, plug in your headphones, and you get an instantaneous improvement for cheap! Click on the TBAMM link in my sig for details. They are also highly regarded (for the price) on the Amp section of the Head-fi forums.

I have decided to audition both the MS1 and 555, so I know what I might be missing out on with either.

Thank you for the recommendation! Unfortunately, I am located in Singapore, and am 17 (ie. No credit card =\ ). Eventually, though, I will definitely look into investing in an external sound card or headphone amp.

Just testing BSS -shampoo suicide -- on the MBquarts qp55x ,

The recording is not Hi-Fi ofcourse( who cares). but the Headphones catch the vibe of the music very well. Much better than my px100's ( they overdo it a bit)

oh , I just read you don't have a credit card

A shame, well good luck with finding the right pair!
