Hi,
I just wanted to post my reveiw and thoughts of the Sennheiser 212Pro & 202, I'm not a heaphone audiophile, as a matter of fact I just started with this hobby, but I do have a little experience with Home theate equipment.
For starters I wont make a separate review between the two, they are almost the same, costruction, appearence, almost everything, I'll just make some comments about both. So here it goes.
Contruction,
Very good for both (plastic), but they dont seem that cheap to me, they are very solid, but remember I havent tried any hi end headphones, so cant compare the contruction to them, but for $25-40 I do think they are build pretty solid.
Comfort,
I didnt expect them to be ultracomfortable, but they are very good, I almost dont feel them, the are very light. But in 4+ hour of listening I didnt like my ears sweating, but I do think this is normal. The letherate is very cofortable, and the semi-circular design fits my ears like a charm.
Sound,
At first both were very poor in all areas, but specially in bass. And with all the reviews about this being over power in the low region I was confused. But I was plugging them directly to my computer sound card (Hecules XP Gametheater). So I thought that I could gain something plugging them to my A/V Reciever (Marantz SR6200) and the sound became better but still nothing like the reviews I have read about this headphones. So I wanted a heaphone amp (reading here how much a good amp makes a difference), but living in guatemala limits everything, there isnt any heaphone suppliers here.
So I was looking for something that could power them, and this crazy Idea came to me (I had a pair of generic speakers in my room that I ditch when I bought my altec lansing), so I plug them to my sound card, and then plug the headphones to the speakers phone jack, and the sound became fuller, richer, the bass much much deeper than I ever thought on a $25-40 Headphones. Everything is full of life specially the bass, now I even have to use the GTXP equalizer in my computer to set everything how I like. I can only imagine what this headphones could achive with a good amp. I just want to add the 212 were a little better in the bass department, it seem they can go deeper with less stress, and almost no distortion, but I dont think it is worth the extra $15.
Aplications,
PC Gaming: I usually play 1st person shooter and now I can hear footspeps, I can locate where people are throwing granades and firing.
MP3: this are very good for listening you MP3, I can even hear errors and poor recordings, maybe there are better, but they do seem to work, at least for me.
Summary,
I'm very happy with my puchase, both the 212 and 202 are very good for the money, I dont know if there is a better headphone in this price range $25-40. They are very good for computer use (PC gaming and MP3), although I do recommend an amp so you can hear them to their full potential.
Well this is the end of my first review, I hope you like it. I'll be seraching for better heaphones in the future, but for now I'm very happy.
Thanks for reading my review,
Pablo Abularach
Note: The only thing that I didnt add but is worth mentioning, but I didnt wanted to affect the review, is that I do hear a little hiss when nothing is playing when they are plug thru the speakers phone jacks, but I'm attributing this to the amp of the $10 generic computer speakers. But when you start the music or the games, you wont hear it.
