I really like my HD485`s , but Im thinking later on in the year, what about the HD580`s . My Creek OBH-11 headphone amp claims to be usable between 32 - 300 ohms and I note that the 580s are a 50 ohm load, based upon this and in real terms, would the OBH-11 have what it needs to handle the 580`s ?

Im very partial to jazz guitar and a big fan of wes montgomery and kenny burrell , would the 580`s seperate the instruments to a greater degree than the 485`s ? Im not interested in the 600 series cans, before somebody mentions them, and the 580 is the only other set of cans which ive read about that ticks my boxes.

What tangible advantages then will the 580`s bring to the table that the 485`s cannot and is the OBH-11 man enough to handle them ?

The HD580 is 300 Ohm, not 50. FWIR, I would only consider using the HD580 with the OBH11 if you have the upgraded power supply, but not the standard one. What sound card or other equipment are you plugging your headphones into?

300 ohms !!!!!! nah I think id need something with a lot more clout than an obh-11, aint no drama anyway , I really like the 485`s and they are very easily driven.

thanks for the info mate.

i have had the hd580 and creek amp. had stock and upgraded power supplies. the upgraded supply helps in heavy bass situations slightly. the hd580 runs fine out of it.

the hd580 will give you better bass, mids, highs, soundstage, seperation, respect, and comfort over the hd485 (which i also have had)

actually, the hd485 is junk imho. sounds nice until its compared to its betters. then it pales fast!

You might consider the HD595's. I have had both 595's and 580's. I actually prefered the 595's. The amp I am using is a Headamp AE-2

how far around the volume control are you going, and are you going through a line out or the headphone socket ?

My experience with the HD580 is that as long as you have some sort of amplification, it is already worlds better than unamped and the HD485, so I would guess that the Creek should be fine.

The HD 580 with proper amplification will blow the HD 485 completely out of the water. They are one of the most highly regarded Senns here on Head-Fi. With HD 600 grills they match or even better the flagship HD650s - and they can be had used for as little as $150, proving to be your best bang for the buck.

Do you mean these are your preferences and experiences with these headphones? Or, are you predicting this would be everyone's preference and experience if tried?

the power supply with the OBH-11 is now the OBH-Uni, when I quizzed an engineer at Creek as to which was better, OBH-2 or OBH-Uni, he said definitely the Uni. With 300 ohms on the 580`s, would they not bleed the Creek amp dry ?
