I've noticed that the HD485's can be a little bright during certain songs. My ears can be very sensitive to the harsh s's. I notice the same with the PX100. I was watching some DVDs and the s's were quite harsh. Maybe I'm just too sensitive.

Anyway... I was wanting to try the HD555 next. How do they compare to the PX100 and HD485 (anyone have all three, or have tried all three?). Are they less bright sounding? I will be using them on my iMac (unamped) with iTunes for music (Elton John, Beatles, Savage Garden, Journey, Pat Benatar, Aerosmith, Soundtracks, MercyMe... to name a few. I also sometimes listen to rap/R&B) and I like watching DVD movies on my iMac as well.

I basically want an all-around headphone and these are $99 on amazon. I know some people seem to recommend the HD595 over these, but it's out of my budget. Comfort is also an issue because I can use headphones for hours.

I suppose I just need some reassurance before paying for them.

I wasnt all that impressed by the 555's and I dont see it as being a big step up from the 485's

I personally preferred the AT A700 in that price range and I havent yet found a ~100$ HP that sounds that good to my ears. I havent heard the AD700, so I don't know much about their qualities.

The A700 seems to be a closed headphone. Maybe I should have said I like open. Thanks a lot for responding though.

I found the AD700 on amazon for $109 and so that is pretty good.

I'm only familar with Sennheiser though and so can you explain a little more about this brand? What is their sound like? Like I know Grado is a little on the bright side. Sennheiser on the darker side. Also, will these be fine with no amp?

I wrote it down and I do some better research on these later. Thanks!
