The HD450 is an old model from the '80s which is even more power-hungry than your current HD580 and HD650 - your current Airhead may not even be able to drive the HD450 at all; you will need a huge amp just to even get the HD450 loud enough. And sound-quality-wise, it's OK, but some (not all) of Sennheiser's newest models at the price point of what the HD450 originally sold for sound better.

The Owners Manual for the HD 480 is HERE. The 480 looked the same as the 450 but was the next model up.

I posted to a thread at the sale/trade section first and thought I'd correct myself by moving it here instead. Here's my question.

Shouldn't the cable replacement be a straight-forward job? I got my hands on a faulty pair of HD450 II's and thought I'd check the connectors first. The left channel is dead. I've tried pulling out the plug but it seems to take way too much force. Are there any locks or should the plug come out with ease? I thought someone could confirm this first before I try to pull it out with tweezers or something. It could be just stuck there, these are old headphones anyway.

If someone has took old sennheisers apart before, I'd love to hear more.

I had found the same link earlier that John Willett linked above and what I'm seeing is that the plugs should come right off. The manual doesn't inform anything about the actual cable replacement besides the polarisation warning, but the photos makes it look like it's a simple job.
