I'm looking for a medium sized can to use with my iPod, unamped with my 4G iPod and ideally, the V6 would be the best bet as far as durability and roadworthiness, but alas, I don't care much for the sucked out mids and harsh highs. Other cans I thought about were:
Audiotechnica ATH-M30 - don't sound too good unamped.. not sure why, they just don't sound "right" unless amped
Senn HD280 Pro - too big/clunky, and not enough bass straight out of the iPod
Senn PX200 - one of the best options, I may still go this route, but I'm looking for something a little more "tank-like" in its durability
Beyer DT770 Pro, 80 Ohm version - I like these, but at $199, they're out of my range (I'm looking at around $100 max)
Which leads me to the Senn HD25-SP as my next option. I can get them for as little as $89 shipped online, but I'd probably rather get them from Headroom for about $7 more shipped so I can return them if I don't like them.
Can anyone tell me how the HD25-SP (NOT the HD25-1's, as those are too expensive) compare to stuff like the Sony V6, Senn HD280, etc.? Will it be a good match with my iPod? Headroom totes the 25SP by saying:
"Sennheiser lives up to its reputation in terms of quality construction in a big way with this simple headphone design: you just won’t break it. Add to that a punchy well balanced sound, and a very good, moderately comfortable fit, and you’ve got a damn good pair of sealed headphones. They may lack a bit in the articulation in the highs, but better that than the sin of harshness; these headphones flat out rock, and will last a lifetime in a backpack. It’s a great pop-rock-hiphop-ambiant-rave-whatever kickin’ headphone. "
So would they be the best $100-ish medium-to-full size option?
