If I can get both new at the same price, what are the trade-offs. I will be listening to mostly classical and small ensemble jazz with Meier Move amplifier. I have ER4S for isolation or travel, so this will be a home or desk headset.

Thanks,
Alan

I have both, and I think the HD580 is the better-sounding can -- however, it seems the HD580's are now getting sold-out in many places, so harder to find new.
The HD580 just sounds better overall, compared to the HD595, when both are ampped.
But, the HD595 sounds good even without an amp -- and the HD580 gets unhappy without amping.
I bet the HD580 would be best for your set-up.

This sums it up really. WIth el-dodgo amplification I'd stick to the easier-to-drive 595's, but as you have a nice amp, the 580's will serve you better.

I agree that the HD580 is a better headphone. With each upgrade to your current setup, you can potentially gain more with the HD580.

The HD595 are usually described with punchier bass and more emphasized treble. People usually swap for the HD595 if the find the HD580 too slow and dark.

This is one of the most asked questions around if you just do a search. You will never get a direct answer. You'll see soon enough with many people who prefer the 595's, and then more who prefer the 580's, and it'll just jump back and forth resulting in a dead thread. Anyways...I prefer the 580's

And its the desire for a bit more top end that first lead me to the HD595s (tried thin speaker cloth in 580s to release a bit more highend from them).

Another reason to consider the HD595 is comfort.... As others posted around here & I found for myself, my 595s are far more comfortable than my HD580s.

But I agree that 580s do have an edge sonically overall esp. when one considers soundstage... The same angling of the drivers that give a bit more excitement to the 595s also seems to narrow the soundstage.

Since I now have DT-880s & like them a bit more than the others, I won't like doing it but will probably be parting w/my 595s soon...

Try putting up thread title like this: "Senn HD595 vs HD600" and see how many fanboys scream and yell that the HD600 a leap and bounds above the HD595. Some Team HD600 fanboy crew will even go as far as saying that the HD600 is superior to the HD580 in sound.

This so far has been a fairly neutral thread without too much idiotic fanboy comments therefore I will add my 2 cents.

Amp: winner = HD580
Unamp winner: winner = HD595

If you are planning to go unamp, no doubt get the HD595 however, with the addition of an amp, the HD580 is a better choice.

seriously, hd580 is the most comfortable headphones ever imo.
people who say 580s not being comfy must have horns or rabbit-ears.

if you want a 580, better move pretty quick since they've been discontinued . . .

X2. I had both. The 595 is great without an amp, but I do feel that the 580s would be better for you. Also it will match great with the music you are listening to.

HD580 is in a different league than HD595. HD595 ment to be an efficient allrounder whilst HD580 scales up very much along with better amps and sources. For the HD580 to start shining you need at least 300$ amps...

I like myHD580's, but I haven't tried the 595's. They could be a bit more comfortable than they are, but this is coming from somebody that used open headphones for years.

There is a guy selling HD580's on ebay brand new with warantee. I bought my pair from him and it came exactly as that, brand new. The price is decent, especially considering they are discontinued.

He ships quickly and gives you the option to upgrade to USPS Priority if you want.

$169.96+$8.95 shipping

Anyway, maybe my 580s will loosen up a bit they are basically new & clamp like mad. E.g. maybe I need to stretch/bend the spring metal cause even when adj for my ears, when I take 'em off the bottoms touch (left pad hits right pad).

Hard to imagine anyone whos tried Beyer DT-880s thinking the HD580s are the most comfortable headphones ever

Like everyone, guess you can search, read & maybe even try 'em somewhere & take your shot.
Good luck.
