did a search but it didnt help me that much. I want to know if the Airhead has the power in terms of volume amplification to make my senn 497 significantly louder (at least twice without an amp).. and direclty to the source. I use a sony mp3 cd player.. i listen to techno music, and im ok with the sound quality already (a little better sound wouldnt hurt) but i just want the output to be a little louder..

thanks

It probably can, though I'm not sure if it'll be twice as loud (you should also keep in mind that listening too loud with headphones can and will cause permenant hearing damage).

If you just want louder outpout you may want to look into a used CMOY or a Headsave Mint-Vibe instead of the (IMHO overpriced) Airhead.

Based on my experience, Headroom Airhead or Total Airhead can drive most of low impedance cans to ear ringing volume. So your Senn will be plenty loud (careful not to demage your hearing). The recent 4 AAA battery version seems most powerful version Airhead/Total Airhead. I found it sounds even better with external walwart power supply.

BTW, to hear (or to perceive) twice loud, you will need about 10 times the power. You can check your power rating and compare that of Headroom's to see if it can be played TWICE louder in theory.

Sony mp3cdp in Denmark has probably got the european volume cap. Meaning 1,5mw per channel. Will 'any' amp talked about on head-fi go twice as loud? I would be very surpriced if it didn't.

I agree, go for a cmoy amp (often for sale here in the for sale forum) or contact headsave about a mint-vibe. They will save you some money and are good enough for your needs IMO.

when i said about twice as loud, I was pushing it quite a bit, but i do want this airhead to make the sound a bit more powerful than what my sony player can manage at max. I am not planning to use it with another headphone.

I found there is a significant improvement in power/impact when an external power supply is used. I've used to use the rechargable AAA NiMhs and it was acceptable. Regular AAAs were even better. When I used the wal-wart power supply, it made a night and day difference. It is hard to quantify, but it produced nearly 70-80% of Corda HA-1's power.

I would try to cancel it if I were you.
I doubt if it can handle both 110V and 230V.
If you can't maybe an adapter for 110V->230V will do the trick. But I'm no expert on things like that.

edit: sorry. answered the wrong question (and no way to delete the post...?). As Lisa stated, there's almost no chance that it's going to work. If you can't return it, you could get an adapter (shouldn't be hard to find), though that may not be a cost effective solution. At least then if you make the same mistake twice, you'll already have the adapter

edit2: In response to below, the "power supply" Headroom sells is a regulated wall-wart, so they're (almost) the same. Also, I would keep the voltage below 12V, seeing as how it isn't spec'd for voltages over that. Going over a little probably won't hurt anything, but you never know, right

hmm... too many winks from me...

Nope, I mean any wall-wart. I'm using 13V DC (capable of delievering 10 Watts, yikes) wall-wart from my old Motorola flip phone charger kit (from early 90's). As long as it is a center positive, you will be fine. Although mine was extremely stable at 12.9V. I've compared with some other 9V-12V wall-warts (I have like 5 of 'em, Yamaha X 2, Roland, ...

) and higher the voltage, the better it sounds. I would keep it under 14V just to be safe (15V is maximum).

Okay so a wall-wart is just a term for these adapters you use wit cdplayer, cellphones (amps) etc.?

cos then i got some and if can use one of thoes from fx my phone with the airhead then well.. it'd be awsome

Will i damage the airhead by trying different adapters with it?
