which one would be a better pick for me? i like bass and sound isolation. but i dont want the bass to be overwhelmingly boomy.

you won't get bass with the hd280...either the boomy kind or the good kind. it has better isolation than the k81, though. they are very different headphones...you should try and listen to both first before making a decision...

Yes, the HD280 have a nice flat bass, But I prefer the M-50 or the Ultrasone PRO-550/DJ1
