i have a great DAC and amp, but rather than buy a portable DAC (of which I have plenty), I seek a digital output CD transport and mp3/red book/high res audio digital file outputternto feed my DAC.

Suggestions for less than or near $500?

I’m also curious. I’d like to set up a listening nook for myself. I could just attach an old PC laptop to my DAC’s USB port; however, I want a more elegant solution.

I’ve ended up using a Sony VAIO laptop with built-in optical drive, feeding it via USB to my Sennheiser HDVD800 DAC/ amp and then my HD800 headphones. I use foobar2000 as a player, as Windows Media Player does not play all my formats, e.g., Apple Lossless. I use my wireless mouse on my chair arm to navigate the playlists without needing to drag the PC itself from the table next to my chair. This is an EXCELLENT combination!

Yep, I’ve moved my set up from the study, to the living room. With a Muskoka chair so I can properly relax!
