You may think that I am crazy. If so, Pls do so
I just bought RME ADI-2 this evening and now I am using the following configuration to drive R225.
My DVD-writer is LG. If you just want to listen to your beloved music CD but you hv to use your PC for 8 hrs a day, Just a M-audio 440 or 1814 should be a good choice. For me I run a tiny home studio so I need more in-out and that's why I purchased 1814.
Then I used D60 Coax cable to feed the digital signal to RME. With RME, the sound became more thicker and the background noise became much more lower. For the sake of fun, I tried to hook up RA-1 and found that the result is stunning. The sound became more clear (comparing RME - and may be it needs sometime to burn-in), all other tiny insturments shown in a more detail way. I love this setup and I hope I have more time to tweak the setup tomorrow.
It also drove my AKG 240 Studio nice and clean. But I am not sure if RME alone can drive HD600/650 well ? Still waiting for RME's reply.
P.S Did I tell you that ADI-2 worked very well with my Meridian 588 CD Player ?
