Edit:

I think i can define my music preferences as rock with minor tonality and pop with major tonality, thanks to you an pandora.

I just need to zero in on the IEM's now. But if you can further refine my music preference you are welcome.

ORIGINAL :

I have been picking at the Head-fi forums for a while but still find it difficult to classify the type of music i prefer. I know that this is an important consideration for choosing iem's.

As a matter of fact i have a pair of shure Scl4 on back order ( which dont seem to be shipping) so i was also considering the scl3, apple iem ,er6i. I am looking for a good pair as i do not see myself spending this much on earphones at least for now. i have always used stock eabuds and owned a sony altus 777 headphone (the pinnacle of my audio equipment

)

Ever since i heard my friends grado gs1000 ( yes the $1000 headphones) i have been itching for an upgrade. i would really appreciate if you would help me define my music preference and choice of iem's.

So to start i think my music preference leans towards rock but on the contrary i hate some bands (may be i hate heavy metal). I like songs with good vocals and lyrics with guitar or piano background the most ( like "enrique iglesias" or "apologise by timbaland"). I also like fast paced songs with hoarse vocals, guitar and drums like bryan adams.

So i will let the audiophiles decide by listing a sampling of my favourite songs in alphebetical order.

*3 doors down
here i am.
kryptonite.

ac/dc
highway to hell

*black angels
young men dead

*Backstreet boys
drowning

*Boyzone
words (words are all i have)

*bryan adams
summer of 69
back to you
18 till i die

* Dido
White flag.

*Enrique
rythm devine
escape

george michael
*careless wisper

*fools garden
lemon tree
wild days

*guns and roses
-----i am not a big fan of the vocals "{would you call it high pitched}"

*Jennifer lopez
waiting for tonight

*linkin park
in the end

*nelly furtado
all good things

*nickel back
animals
how you remind me

*queen
we will rock you

*sting
desert rose
thousand years

*savage garden
crash and burn

and so on....i will list more if this is not enough

Thanks for the quick response guys.

So its rock and pop i see, any hint of blues?

In my understanding rock would be fastpaced music and a lot of instruments played at a high volume and raw energy am i right.

How would you define pop and blues?

As for the grados, i think i like them because it is a huge jump from the stock earbuds i am used to and could hear a lot of instruments. I must have used it for like 5 minutes.

So what would be a good signature for this kind of music?

Shures, Ety....

I am in no position to buy the shure 530. i was just trying to categorise and give examples of IEM's with great high's mid's and low's.

So do you think i would benefit from iem's focussing on mid's?

I finally received the scl4 and i like them. Initially it was meh! but after a while i am able to appreciate it better.

I had to eq the bass just a tiny bit and it is wery nice and punchy. The sound is clear and i can hear some background instruments that i couldnt hear before but thats it.

I did not get the WOW! feeling at all.
