I listen to music like Bullet for My Valentine, Avenged Sevenfold, and other metal/rock music. I usually listen to the distorted guitars in the songs more than the voices.

And friend of mine is an EXTREME headphone junkie, and is willing to sell me the se310 for 150, super fi 5 for about 160, SE420 for 200, the 530 for 260.

I have an iPhone (same as ipod touch), and I've been using the apple headphones/ rivet iPhone headphones forever. They just broke, and I'm looking for an upgrade in sound quality. I've never spent this much on headphones before, as I had to dish out about $200 for the Logitech Z-5500 recently (I don't know how earbuds can compare to surround sound, but these earbuds cost the same... so they must be good)

I know this probably has been asked a lot, but he needs and answer by this weekend. Any recommendations?

lol, and that's the most expensive one compare to other two, right?
that's your friend so you should try if you can. That's cool when you have iem to try and feel the different between those, try it with different kindda music if you can

wow, 260$ for the Shure SE530 is definitely the best price/performance ratio deal you have got offered. although, like said before, if the seller is your friend you should try each one on first and then decide what's best for you.

Thanks, I'm probably going to go with the se530. He's coming in town for the weekend, that's why I have till then to decide. I guess I'll ask him to bring all of them for the heck of it.

I read on these forums that they 'hiss' with the iphone and ipod touch. What exactly does 'hiss' mean? Like... static or a 'hiss' sound in the background when listening to music?

Oh yeah, quick question. I'm getting another Z-5500 for my computer (current z-5500 is for entertainment room). Say if you're bored, and wanted to listen to music. Would you rather listen to your music on your Shure SE530 headphones, or listen to it on the Logitech Z-5500 surround sound, which would you prefer?

I don't really know how to better describe it than a hiss. It happens because these headphones are very sensitive and the iPhone and iPod Touch aren't exactly the best source, so if you directly connect them, you'll most likely hear the hiss. You notice it more during quiet parts of songs and some don't notice it during busy parts. You could use an adapter to increase the impedance or use an amp to get rid of the hiss.

The Z-5500 really isn't designed for music. It does great things with movies and games, but it simply doesn't stand up to the natural reproduction of a high-end IEM/headphone. Headphones also have a higher price/performance ratio than speakers.
