Scratch the Bose, how is the Klipsch iFi???

Perhaps this is an opinion of dissent, but I have always found conventional speakers to be the way to go.

I got a pair of Klipsch Ultra 2.0 speakers on ebay for $30. They sound fantastic and can compete with any ipod dock speaker system I've ever heard.

My girlfriend's daughter wanted a Bose iPod speaker thing for her birthday. There was to be no such thing near me so I bought what I figured had to be a better setup, the Klipsch iFi. They sounded as good as all of the reviews said they do. I was impressed and got myself a set for work. I am a big Klipsch fan and I also have a Klipsch 2.1 system in the bedroom and a Klipsch 4.1 system on my primary home PC. I say get the iFi.

All iPod speaker systems are garbage. Well at least 99.9% of them that includes products from 'respected names'.

If you want compactness of course you have no choice but to get an ipod dock. If you are going for decent sound quality ANY set of speakers from bestbuy and a receiver will, to make an understatement of the century, DESTROY any ipod dock's sound quality.

For example this guarantees you better sound quality any Bose or Klipsh iPod setup. And probably any other sound dock.

Insignia® - 6-1/2" Bass-Reflex Bookshelf Speakers (Pair) - NS-B2111
AND
Insignia® - 200W 2.0-Ch. Stereo Receiver - NS-R2000

Or if you want Dolby Digital/DTS future expandability replace the insignia amp with this:
Yamaha - 500W 5.1-Ch. A/V Home Theater Receiver - RX-V361BL

For this money you can have a setup that no iPod dock can touch. Of course this is only possible if you have enough space for it. But for sound quality this setup can give you is light years beyond any ipod dock. Unless of course someone makes an iPod dock with a real amp and real speakers. I am not aware of any.

Ironically this setup is also far cheaper then many dedicated ipod setups!

I have the iFi system, and for it's purpose it works great. Don't expect audiophile nirvana quality audio, as that's not what it's aimed at (and certainly isn't priced at either). But the sound quality is great, it charges the ipod, and works rather well as an ipod alarm clock. IMHO, the sub needs to be toned down just slightly, but it's just a small nitpick in an overall well done package.

Klipsch iFi is not garbage. It's not like regular ipod speakers. Klispch iFi is way higher in terms of SQ compared to any multimedia speakers. Utterly no comparison. The stereo imaging is also astounding. Too bad Klipsch has discontinued this product. Go get it while you still can. and from this on, there is still Jamo i300 also very good. Other than that, the rest is garbage hehe.

Oh yah, forget the ipod hehe, I don't use Klipsch iFI with the iPod. The iPOD is indeed the garbage here.

I'm using Computer -> Freeway 2 -> Grace M902 -> Klispch iFi. And it's AWESOME!! so definitely Klipsch iFI is a very capable speakers.
