Schiit Yggdrasil Impressions thread

It does take forever (for some reason) for the yggy to sound good, but there shouldn't be any noises.
What else is in the chain? pre-? amp?
Using XLR or RCA?

maybe disconnect the yggy from the pre/amp and see if the speakers still make noise.

Is it normal to hear some pops and blips from the speakers while the Yggdrasil is warming up? Mine has only been on for a couple hours but I'm hearing sometimes static pops coming from my speakers.
No, never.

Ok thanks guys. I will do some troubleshooting tonight. Will try the other SE outputs and also use my headphone amp to see if I can hear the pops as well. Only thing that has changed is taking out the Gungnir Multibit for the Yggdrasil.

Found the problem. It was the Rednet D16 using XLR output. I switched over to Unison USB and the same tracks were working just fine, none of the static pops I was hearing. So I rebooted the D16 and it seems to be working like normal again. Weird.

Oh well.
Congrats on finding the issue. Those bugs drive you crazy if u cant find em!

So you’ll be giving impressions of Dante/AES delivery to Yggy vs. USB/Unison?

Myself (and maybe 5 other people:ksc75smile:) are interested.

No. Never had that happen for the few years my Yggdrasil drove an always-on speaker amp. Even after turning it back on after upgrades (A1->A2; Gen 5->Unison), or having it off while away.

Sound glitches are definitely a transport issue.

I've had glitches on both of my speaker rigs, Lynx soundcard AES to Yggdrasill. I've been thinking about making the switch to Unison USB.

And speaking of taps…
Is there a link to a concise definition for them?
When I looked previously I never did find one.

Thanks JJ

I thought the taps were also smaller on the Gungnir Multibit and the old Bifrost Multibit. Can't find any info on the internet though when I search.
gungnir Multibit also has similar 8x filter, but different bit depth. bifrost multibit OG has half as many taps since 4x oversampling.

also 0.968 of Nyquist is better than off-the-shelf FIR filters with .907 of Nyquist for slightly extended HF response.

Interesting, so Yggdrasil should theoretically have more treble extension than say other delta sigma DACs using embedded filters?

It's odd cause I swear the recent Gungnir Multibit A2 had steeper treble rolloff than the Yggdrasil. I should have done a sine sweep to confirm it, but it was perhaps the 2nd darkest Multibit DAC I heard (Modi Multibit A2 being the 1st)
