The Vali 3 provides 100 volts to the tube. The Vali 2++ sends 60. So, the Vali 3 is going to make the tube sound better. I have both the Vali 2++ and Vali 3 and the two tubes that you mentioned. There is quite an improvement.
If you like this knob, I have a difficulty trusting your judgement regarding the Grados
I did however connect my SR80x to the Vali 3 and enjoyed the sound very much, so I guess the SR325x can only be better
Well ... I'll say it ... I roll knobs ! When Vali 3 uses a tube with brushed aluminium adapter (@Deyan), silver knob; with gold adapter (Xuling), gold knob; with no adapter, black knob.
Will a Vali 3 provide a noticeable upgrade to a Vali 2++ with a GE 5760 5-Star? How about with a WE 396A? I already have a Vali 2++ and 5760 but am intereted in a warmer, more tubey sound either as a standalone amp or as a pre for my Jotenhiem 2.
I know it's not a question, but your comment about wanting a warmer, tubey sound is, I think, what a lot of people look for. Keep in mind that Vali 3 is a tube HYBRID, so it's a little from column A, and a little from column B. BUT, with that said, there's a pretty wide range of detail, warmth, etc., based on tube rolling. Find one you like and rock on. The GE 5-star triple mica and WE 396a (and the multitude of other tubes we've all mentioned in this 275+ page thread) are both great!
Had a typo there "rube rolling" - made me laugh out loud. And I think that's a place we just don't want to go. Fixed, obv.
