Both have the same price, both brands are reputable, both appear to have quality and maybe it does not make much difference to choose between one and the other, but what are the differences, one is better than the other, which has the other not has ? Leave a comment in your experiences.

I've heard more good things about the Modi Multibit than the EL Dac. The Multibit has to be left on 24/7 for the best performance though. It operates it's best at thermal equilibrium so turning it on only when you want to use it will negatively affect performance

The Modi Multibit is more popular as Schiit are pushed more when recommendations come out. I have not heard either side by side, but am a long time JDS Labs user and appreciate their approach to making things that work and sound great.

What is thermal equilibrium and why turning it off would affect its performance ?

Thermal equilibrium is just the scientific term for "everything inside is the same temperature". I don't know why the DAC operates best this way, but if I remember correctly, Schiit themselves have said that the unit has to run for a few hours until it sounds it's best. I'm sure plenty of other users could explain why this is the case

Do you know a better Dac at this price range ?

It's just that certain components can't operate to spec until they reach (and stay at) a certain temperature.

Do you know a better Dac at this price range ?

The Modi Multibit is the best DAC I've heard at its price, and I (along with many others) think it outperforms plenty of more expensive DACs.

Do you think the Schiit Modi Multibit would be a good pairing with a hybrid tube amp like Project Ember ?

I did not ask if you use it

But how would I know how the amp sounds if I haven't heard it? Your question implies that I've heard it in the first place to know whether it would sound good. I can assume that it would sound good with any amp, but I can't tell you anything specific beyond that aside from the amps I've used it with. (I've more or less only used the Modi Multibit with speakers anyway.)

I asked if you "think" that it would be good to use Modi with an amplifier "like" Project Ember because it is a tube because I assume you have already used such an amplifier, but at no time did I state that you have used Project Ember or you like tube amplifiers, but still thank you again.

I'm wondering the same thing as the OP about the Mimbi vs JDS EL DAC. I say get both, try them, and let us know your thoughts. You can always sell one of them on here once you pick your favorite.

And to the comment that the Modi Multibit is recommended more often than the EL DAC, I'd remind you that popularity does not always equal superiority :).

I myself am eager find a way to try them side-by-side

I haven't heard the Ember in particular, but my Bifrost Multibit (which is basically the same as the Modi Multibit other than the power supply) sounds great with every tube amp and hybrid I've used it with.
