Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Thanks!

If you are able to get the width and presence ability, shouldn't you be able to get the same on a pair of speakers only? Since both are two channels. At least that's my understanding.
My understanding is that a center channel can be faked, but the Syn will not do fake full surround (i.e. including rear surround).

lol I'd go smaller but for my work I need number pad, I was using full size for the longest time. Finally decide to give 1800 layout a chance and bought Keychron V5. Took a while to get used to muscle memory. I still think I'm faster on full size (in terms of finding del, home, end, arrow key.....etc purely based from muscle memory), but I'm enjoying the smaller size so maybe I'll keep as it. Might try the aluminum Q series later (V is plastic).
I bought a Keychron K5 that comes with the number pad. Absolutely love the feel of trying on it.

Hey, lets plan a trip while the kids are on Spring Break ...
Wow, great idea! It'll be good to get away from everything for a bit :tropical_drink::sun_with_face::palm_tree:

* note: this is after reading Jason's SYN post ... still have a few hundred from before that to catch up on as well ...

Somewhere I think that Jason hinted that what Rekr really needed was a five-channel power supply, so people with five Rekrs did not need five wall warts. He did not promise, he hinted. I can’t find this now, maybe I imagined it.
I'm not sure I understand the idea there. In a surround system the speakers are quite far from one another.

So, one either runs long RCA/XLR wires to where the speakers are, with an amp nearby (preferable, according to audio dogma) OR
one has a short run from preamp to amp then long run of speaker wires (less preferable according to audio dogma).

What we really need are "transmitters"/"receivers" that use infrared lasers to transmit the PCM from preamp to a receiver/Modi/Rekkr. Would go well with the SHARC DSP chips....

Yes, that’s the way I read it. You won’t get true spatialization.

agreed. Plus hdmi arc and a tuner. You could get a Yamaha RX V4A for $240. I like Schiit but I think this is a rather niche product.

It’s either priced right and will sell. Or it will make its run and then go the way of the Sol turntable. Time will tell I guess 🤷‍♂️

Interesting...can I use this to create a Subwoofer powered headphone experience like the way Burson Soloist has a Sub output?

How does one attach this to an existing 5.1 setup with a AVR...
traditional HT setups use the internal DSP processors in the AVR.

So where does one attach or connect a SYN to try it out to compare with the AVR's dsp stuff?

My somewhat uneducated guess would be: The stereo line out RCA connectors of your AVR, if it has 'em?
Either that, or you go parallel to the AVR and plug the Syn into a second output of your source directly.

Some AVRs and surround preamps have individual inputs for 5.1, so I think that would be the only way to make it work with one. There is often a way to bypass the dsp when using these individual channel inputs, as is the case with my anthem surround preamp, as well as an adcom AVR I used to use.

Otherwise Syn acts as a standalone surround preamp hooked up to a 5 channel amp and a sub or similar arrangement.
