Bet I'm the only one here who has seen Jandek in person
No, it was in Camden, NJ. They've changed the name of the venue so many times I can't tell you what it was. I know it cost $35 to park! Was this at Belleayre ski mountain NY by chance?
You win, I think.Bet I'm the only one here who has seen Jandek in person
Interesting. Although I never learned music formally or played an instrument, my parents dragged us to classical performances from very young. Our favorite record at home was a narrated version of Prokofieff's "Peter and the Wolf" with the different instruments, representing different characters, were explained. I kept going to many concerts, and also built amps and speakers so that I could better enjoy my record collection, until I was too busy with graduate school and family. And that was the "training" that got me into frequent live music (pre-COVID) and increasingly exotic audio gear...IIRC, there's a limit to the plasticity of the brain for aural processing. If you never hear certain sounds while very young, you'll never hear them period.
Affects language processing to a significant extent.
I've wondered if this phenomenon affects people who grow up only listening to recordings and never/rarely listen to "live performances."
For me it was Chicago. Both are special to me and your words are a reminder of why. Thank you, brother! Now there's an interesting side bar for this thread, first live concerts.
The Beach Boys for me.

That and that Buddha awful d(r)umb solo, LOL!It was In The Garden of Eden but they were in too stoned to pronounce it and just went with it.
Too young to remember a first, lots and lots of classical, biggest memories Stravinsky's "Rite of Spring" and "Petrushka," Orff's "Carmina Burana," Bartók's "The Miraculous Mandarin." First live jazz was an incredible event in 1971 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cascais_Jazz_Festival.Now there's an interesting side bar for this thread, first live concerts.
