Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Anyone have any info on how much an Asgard 2 will put into 14 Ohm? I got a pair of LCD-5 and they sound surprisingly as good through the Asgard 2 as through the Mjolnir 1. Neither were rated at 16 Ohms when they came out, but I’m not pushing them super hard anyway…

The specs were at 50 and 32 (1 W at both) so I figured at a lower load it wasn’t looking like it would extrapolate higher. Unlike Magni 3 and Asgard 3, which do keep increasing from 50 to 32 to 16

A2 is class A biased, and the power decreases into 300 and 600 ohm loads, so an output voltage limitation of ~10.7V rms for the higher impedance loads. Into lower impedances, the current limitation is likely to set in, being a Class A design (single ended drive with constant current source for the other rail???). Assuming that this bias current limit is reached into a 32 ohm load, then for a 14 ohm load the max power out will be a bit less than 14/32 or 437.5mW. Likely Jason designed in some margin to allow for unit-to-unit production tolerances, so 500mW would be my reasonable guess.

Thanks for the calculation! I guess if it’s ~500 mW, that’s still right in line with what Audeze recommends for power for the LCD5. We’ll leave aside the choice of an amp that’s 18x cheaper than the headphones, since it’s the stratospheric impulse buy price there that is the outlier. Heck they even the Mojo sounds great to me with these, as a portable. I think they spec that at 720mW into 8 Ohm, so maybe similar to the Asgard 2 into 16 Ohm

Update on Fok-Yu.
She has singing lessons.

Work got delayed today with a big snowstorm. Turned on the Lyr 3 for the first time in a while and plugged in the Aeolus. I probably need to invest in a better tube but I still enjoy the amp now and then.

Conversely my better 6sn7 arrived today and I am patiently waiting for my Lyr 3.

A few more weeks to go.
