Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

But man, if Boeing ever starts engineering commercial aircraft or spacecraft here in St. Louis, I would be first in line for that job fair. Maybe when my wife's business is more established we should look at moving to Seattle.
Years ago (okay, actually many decades ago :)), Boeing offered me an engineering job in Seattle after only a brief on-campus interview at school. That was very strange (other companies would also arrange an interview at the job location). I ended up in Silicon Valley instead, but it was tempting. Boeing had a stellar reputation and was one of the glamor companies to work for. However, it seems that Boeing has been losing its way for years. The revelations from the 737 Max disaster and the Starliner test failure are troubling.

The Seattle area is wonderful. My wife's parents settled there for retirement and we visited many times. However with the tech boom, it is now also among the most expensive regions to live in the US. Not as high as the SF Bay Area, but not far behind.

I was thinking more in the lines of a Magni 3+ guts balanced or Hersey balanced in a slim box to match the modius?

The Jot has gobs of power, not much room in it for more stuff....and still is a viable product IMO...

The Modius is that price performer dac that I think would be great with a lower cost and not necessairly as powerful as a Jot or Lyr 3....

Think it would do well...the only issue is the Asgard 3, but its not balanced but has tons of power....so for those that want to dabble in a nice small form factor a Modius with this new slim line amp would be very inticing...???

@Pietro Cozzi Tinin Are there any treatments effective against COVID-19 that you could recommend (once an individual has started to exhibit symptoms / tested positive) ?
If you want thoughtful updates about what is known and what is not for an US audience, please listen to https://www.microbe.tv/twiv/, especially their Sat-Sun updates with Dr. Daniel Griffin, an infectious disease specialist in New York State who has treated many COVID-19 patients and is on top of the latest on prevention, treatment, and follow up. As @Pietro Cozzi Tinin explained, even generally good information from experts may not be applicable to particular cases, which is why personalized medical attention is essential, especially for a new disease with such varied and puzzling presentation.

I agree that for most headphones (except inefficient early-design ortho planars) 2 or 3 Watts is plenty of power. The slim (low height) of the Modius makes it hard to include conventional linear power supplies and multi-winding AC mains transformer, so a switcher might be necessary.

I wasn't advocating self-medication. Is there an accurate source for medical information that isn't influenced by politics or subject to the whims of their funding sources?
What's really hard to accept with COVID-19 is the uncertainty, and the fast-changing advice as more is learned in the lab and in the clinic. What seemed "accurate" 3 months ago is likely totally inaccurate now as a result of new research and clinical experience. I mentioned TWiV before and I reinforce it again. It's a lot of listening but it has given me much greater appreciation for the zigs and zags in addressing the pandemic. As a member a higher-risk age group and a close relative of someone who passed away from COVID-19, their thoughtful discussion and realism have been essential for keeping some semblance of sanity.

I visited US in 2008 and went on a roadtrip from Seattle to LA. Seattle, and the states of Washington and Oregon, were really lovely. If I had to move to US, I’d probably want to live somewhere around there.
Seattle is a lovely city, but the grey gets a little overpowering.

Yes, go to the WHO website or medical universities websites. Even the Mayo clinic.
Her is one very well informing links:https://www.who.int/emergencies/dis...MI1tuvqofa6gIVCap3Ch3MiQjNEAAYASAAEgLc6vD_BwE
And everything they write is correct. Any mistakes always very quickly explained and corrected.

I don't mean to be too contrarian, but I recall you didn't have much good to say regarding the Mayo clinic and their stance on tinnitus. Why the change?

Schiit happens.
Last week one of my Aegirs stopped working. A click what I thought was protection kicking in, but the amp still played, but much less loud.
I switched the amp of and on and everything was OK again. But after several minutes the volume dropped again this time without a click.
Turned off and on the amp again, but this time the led keeps flashing and the amp doesn't come back in working mode.
Sent an email to Sonority for repair/support request, but so far no answer. Schiit happens.
good you’ve two, enjoy the low spls until the fix

@wout31 Have you tried unplugging it, disconnecting all inputs and outputs, and repowering it back up ? If running in monoblock (xlr input) mode, and there is a malfunction in one or both phases of the balanced source (high dc offset from a tube or transistor failing, etc) it might trip the Aegir's protection circuits.

I would doubt that you’ll see a slim form factor for an amp. Note that there’s no honkin’ xformer in Modius, as it’s USB powered, which ain’t gonna happen with an amp, I don’t think.

My 2p.

+1
Note that Hel is spec'd at 1.2 W pc with 16 ohm loads and includes a 2.1A (10W) AC adapter. USB bus power is limited to about half that.

Nope its not a joke.

The virus is real and we do take precautions and are aware of our surroundings and respect all other opinions on the topic.

But I will not let this virus make me cower or stop living life.

So when I say "Virus my A$$" its meant to say up yours to "it", and not to the fact its a real world issue.

Do what you must to stay safe and respect others opinions as well and educate if you must...

Most will reason and listen....

Stay Safe...

Alex

Good advice.

I'm the GM for a large HOA and Water Company.

The message we have consistently put out to our community is 'prudence not panic'.

At first, I had to focus more on the not panic part... My most recent communications have been to encourage prudence to those who believe there is no threat and put others at risk with their behavior and don't understand why our office is closed to the public and our restaurants are serving take out only.

MOST of us will be fine, but many won't - and it is especially hard to communicate the impact of geometric growth rates when absolute numbers in our community are small and most people only have direct experience with linear growth.

I had someone email me the other day saying I exaggerated the risk because our county only has 450 active cases and 800 total cases. However, they didn't factor in that within 30 days of re-opening most services and establishments, the rate of active cases in our county increased by 450%!

That translates into 4 times more cases in 30 days than the first 3 months and will result in 10's of thousands of cases and hundreds of fatalities within 90 days if the growth rate doesn't change.

I'm not personally concerned for myself, but if practicing social distancing and wearing a mask and not allowing food service inside our restaurants or events at our clubhouse saves someone else - that is definitely worth it to me.

Yes, tried all that.
Disconnected XLR, speaker leads, power cable. Then reconnect power cable and without anything else connected it still doesn't start up.
Very disappointing in such case Sonority doesn't have the email response rate Schiit has.
