I hate it even more when the suppliers don't tell us about a change because "it functions the same" but a little chemistry change does effect the way we use the part!

Do you really want Schiit to tell you that a 10K ohm 1% 0603 pull-up resistor to 3.3V that was a Yageo is now a Vishay Dale? Why would they do this? Some schmuck would claim that the sound stage improved even though it was strap on a Codec digital input latched on power up reset.

Despite Jasons excellent chapter, somewhere there is a local audio club made up of OCD aspy bedwetters where each member owns a Magni 2. They will spend time obsessing about the differences and report a breakdown by serial numbers of the "good ones" vs. the "bad ones", just to prove that there was a conspiracy, and Schiit has been trying to cover it up all along.

Nice chapter, but it would be helpful if the upgrade path were known. Using the Apple example, you can plan to replace your old device and accumulate the funds, check the rumors on the changes, etc., it's clear as mud from the outside of Schiit what is coming up next, is it a new product or is one of the "upgrade-able" portions of something you have currently.

The Osbourne Effect would probably kill Schiit if they did this.

I read that whole thread with the "obsessive phuc". IIRC, he went in with the attitude that his DAC was better than the Schiit DAC without ever saying which DAC it was (strike one) or how it was better (strike 2). No matter how many times he was pressed to describe what he was hearing he couldn't do it. And this with a crowd that does things like talk about "plankton".

And then, after about 50 posts in one thread, and lots of notice on other boards, he finds @atomicbob's measurements and says "Oh! Oh! That's the reason." When asked for the measurements on his magic DAC he refused to provide any and none exist because (a) he wouldn't say which DAC it was and (b) he's not @atomicbob.

"Troll" was being generous when describing the golden-eared phuc.
