Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Chinese manufacturers buying in the US are known to be subsidized by their own government who made huge amounts of money in the US in the first place. That way the US pays for the difference between the components starting price and the price they actually pay when "buying it back" from Chinese manufacturers.
Mike's idea to fund a Chinese corporation would not work because they would probably not be subsidized by the Chinese government.

Edit: Chine-fying the Schiit bizz on US soil could circumvent this.

Oh, thank-goodness. I was not a fan of the last chapter. I've seen the "stubborn engineer" kill many a business, and absolutely ruin team building/performance/morale.

I might appreciate him a little more more after reading, but I really appreciate the counter-point. :smile_phones:

“Screw ‘em,” he said. “We’ll open a Schiit division in Asia and buy direct. We’re not small. This isn’t pocket change. And we’re not idiots.”

Good on Mike. What a load of Schiit!

I got my LISST "tubes" in today.
After retrieving them from under the sofa where Constanza safeguarded them for me, I did some testing.
I was surprised that the difference (in the Mjolnir 2/LCD-X) is so big.
They do change the amp from lean, direct and a little mellow to lean, direct, fast and clean.
Unbelievable.

They are not just a gimmick, they work and provide an extremely cost effective solution to "Tubes or SS"?.

Like the sound of the ShiitKit Shows... more potential exposure in Europe... France ?

That's definitely part of the plan.

As a supplier in the semiconductor fabrication chain (we make parts for tools that the big guys use to make chips, screens, etc.) I can confirm that the price-down pressure is intense in Asia and costs for many things can be 1/50 what they are here, but beware of the grey market always being "legit." That IC might have an AD logo, but it might be spelled "Aniloge Devides"

@JasonStoddard- the demographics are interesting. I bought my first schiit product when I was 19, a Mani and Asgard 2 amp. Now I'm almost 22 with a multibit Bifrost, Audeze LCD-2 headphones, and Ciems. It's definitely an addiction.

2017, Chapter 7:
Learning New Tricks

But I gotta wonder…what are they paying overseas?

And what would it mean to you, if we could pay those rates?

I may never know. But we’re going to look into this more carefully. And maybe, in a future chapter, I’ll come back with some answers.

You more or less have to get to the bottom of this, it's your livelihood.
