Yeah Asgard is the realm of the Aesir (Gods), one of the nine worlds, Jotunheim being one of them also. Valhalla is a hall or fortress as you put it, heroes that died in battle are brought there by Valkyries to train for the battle of Ragnarok.

Those Valkyries are commonly described as (angels of) light in a world/time of darkness. I'd imagine this was taken into consideration given the Valhalla is a tube amplifier!

http://www.sacred-texts.com/neu/ice/coo/coo16.htm - the story of how the Jotunn tried to get the upper hand on the Aesir and take over Asgard by stealing and concealing Mjolnir can be read here.

Or maybe they just come up with random names and I'm delusional, but either way it's very interesting!

Yea there's likely no real intended correlation or lore but there certainly could be!

Considering the time and thought that Jason's chapter on Fulla had, I just think they're having fun with the names.

I've not actually read the chapter on the Fulla but if they do come up with a new portable battery based amp (and/or DAC), potentially a fair bit larger than the Fulla as has been requested by many people here lately, I hope they call it Sleipnir

My Congratulations to you and your team Jason. In all the excitement of the details of the product, we have lost sight of the elephant in the room. It is not every day that a new Amplifier topology appears. As you indicated in your previous writings, it is only once every few decades. Your achievement should be recognized.

Although I am not personally in the market for a new headphone amplifier, I look forward to the new possibilities that appear in the future. I am sure a team as creative as yours will provide many lovely surprises for years to come.

My warmest regards.

Yes, and Jason seemed pretty delighted about it when he announced it in his 2015 Chapter 20 episode.  I'm wondering how much this current feedback differential topology falls within the 'transconductive' or 'current mode' amp category, since that is something that I favor because of its rapid response, clarity and low TIMD capabilities.  I assume, tho, that the JFET inputs were retained and not reverted back to BJTs when the Hawksford linearization circuit was abandoned.

A speaker amp to complement (supplant?) the Ragnarok would seem the next logical evolutionary step, such as he alluded to in his Ch. 20 announcement.

Tea leaves readings are one thing, but seeking mythical meaning in toilet paper Rorschach type smears is just... wrong.

Vali + HD600 make let me go to HEAVEN!
I want balanced version of Vali.

Thanks!

- get Mjolnir 2 with some really sweet tubes, or just go full WA5/LE.

  @Jason Stoddard
I'm curious, how does Schiit decide which names to use for their products? Do you toss names around randomly until one sticks? Do you pull names from a hat? Is there a dartboard involved?

Here is my take on the names:

There are 4 main sizes to Schiit equipment

·         Small Schiit

·         Regular Schiit

·         Big Schiit

·         Mega Schiit

Jason I believe mentiones a smaller size for Fulla but because of what it is named I am counting it in with the Small Schiit.

Each size has a naming convention

·         Small Schiit

o    Gods and goddesses

·         Regular Schiit

o    Locations

·         Big Schiit

o    Weapons

·         Mega Schiit

o    Norse Beliefs and foundations

1)    Small Schiits

a)    Loki (discontinued)

i)      Brother of Thor commonly known as the trickster and not well liked due to his tricks and history.

ii)     Responsible for death of Baldr

b)    Magni and Modi

i)      I am putting these together because they commonly go together

ii)     Sons of Thor

c)     Vali

i)      Son of Odin and a giantess

ii)     Brother of Baldr and Thor

d)    Mani

i)      Norse personification of the moon

e)    Fulla

i)      Commonly known as Frigg’s handmaiden

ii)     Goddess of fertility

iii)    Sister of Frigg who is Odin’s wife

2)    Regular Schiits

a)    Bifrost

i)      Transport from one realm to the next

b)    Asgard

i)      One of the nine realms

ii)     Main home of the Aesir

c)     Lyr

i)      Menglad’s Hall in Jotunheim

d)    Valhalla

i)      Hall presided over by Odin

ii)     Where half of those killed in battle are brought to await Ragnarok

e)    Jotunheim

i)      One of the Nine Realms

ii)     Home of the frost giants

3)    Big Schiits

a)    Gungnir

i)      Spear of Odin

b)    Mjolnir

i)      Hammer of Thor

4)    Mega Schiits

a)    Yggdrasil

i)      Tree of Life

ii)     What holds the nine realms together

b)    Ragnarock

i)      End of the World

ii)     Massive battle for the Nine Realms

iii)    At the end Baldr returned from the underworld and the land became more lush and fruitful than before

iv)    Not considered a true end of the world but a death and a rebirth in a cyclical progression

5)    Ones that don’t follow previous naming convention

a)    Wyrd

i)      Destiny

ii)     Commonly referred to as Urd or the Well of Destiny whose waters feed and nourish Yggdrasil

b)    SYS

i)      Stands for Switch Your Schiit

c)     LISST

i)      Stands for Linnear Integrated Solid State Tubes

So names don’t appear to be random and seem to have some reason behind them but Schiit would have to elaborate more on this or prove me wrong and it could be a dartboard and someone is just really good with darts.
