Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

OK, I'll take a turn.
Even a hint I'll proffer. One of the most sensational songs of 1969. Appropriately so.

Je t'aime, je t'aime
Oh oui, je t'aime
Moi non plus
Oh, mon amour
Comme la vague irrésolue
And banned by the Beeb. So I had to get my Jane fix by spending real money.

And sometimes, it's fun to listen to total nonsense, like this acid trip inspired piece by Donovan, covered by Judy Collins.

On the firefly platform on sunny Goodge Street
violent hash-smoker shook a chocolates machine,
involved in an eating scene.

Smashing into neon lights in their stonedness,
smearing their eyes on the crazy cult goddess,
listenin' to sounds of Mingus mellow fantastic.

"My, my", they sigh, "My, my", they sigh. La, la, la, la

In doll house rooms with coloured lights swingin,'
strange music boxes sadly tinklin,'
drinking the sun shining all around you.

"My, my", they sigh, "My, my", they sigh, La, la, la, la, la, la

The magician, he sparkles in satin and velvet,
you gaze at his splendor with eyes you've not used yet.
I tell you his name is Love, Love, Love.

"My, my", they sigh, "My, my", they sigh. La, la, la la, la...

I saw Chapin a few times live, after one concert at a large venue on campus he offered to keep playing for free at a local fraternity. This song was a crowd favorite. I cannot help thinking of it as I drive a mountain in Pennsylvania designated dangerous mountain.

"30,000 Pounds Of Bananas"

It was just after dark when the truck started down
The hill that leads into Scranton Pennsylvania.
Carrying thirty thousand pounds of bananas.
Carrying thirty thousand pounds (hit it Big John) of bananas.
This reminds me of a very long joke about a semi-truck (articulated lorry in the original, of course) that is pulled over by a cop. When asked what his load is the driver replies "Twenty tons of tinted toilet tissue for Timothy Whites and Taylor"
It only works for Brits, so I won't trouble you with the rest :))

"Om" by David Lister.
No, actually "Om" by the Moody Blues.
I have too many favorites from The Moody Blues and ELO to be able to pick just one...
Cheers and All the Best!:beerchug:

We used to play ELO's Jungle very loud to "encourage" other competitors as we sailed out to race.

Ian Dury and The Blockheads:

Noel Coward was a charmer.
As a writer he was brahma.
Velvet, jackets and pyjamas,
had a gay divorce and other dramas.
There ain't half been some clever bastards
(Lucky bleeders, lucky bleeders)
There ain't half been some clever bas-tards.
Van Gough did some eyeball pleasers.
He must have been a pencil squeezer.
He didn't do the Mona Lisa,
I see your rhythm stick is alive and well.

Huh....are you using tube gain mode or just differential buffer? I NEVER want it to be louder than 90 db so it is not like I want to crank it. Just looking for a full volume. And, with some recordings that are recorded at a lower level, I am concerned about going past 3 o'clock.

Also, I have several iPhone decibel apps on my phone. 1 of them says I never go over 87 db while another says I am constantly over 100 db. They are free apps and I do not see any way to calibrate them so I cannot tell what is going on. I always have them "A" weighted.
You may want to try the app, NIOSH SLM. Also search for this on Amazon or anywhere else: Dayton Audio iMM-6 Calibrated Measurement Microphone for iPhone, iPad Tablet and Android,Black

Very good!

Some of Dury's humour might be lost on people outside the UK, but this was another of his which I liked- 'Billericay Dicky':

Good evening, I'm from Essex
In case you couldn't tell
My given name is Dickie
I come from Billericay
And I'm doing very well

Had a love affair with Nina
In the back of my cortina
A seasoned-up hyena
Could not have been more obscener
She took me to the cleaners
And other misdemeanours
But I got right up between her
Rum and her Ribena

Well, you ask Joyce and Vicky
If candy-floss is sticky
I'm not a blinking thicky
I'm Billericay Dickie
And I'm doing very well

I bought a lot of Brandy
When I was courting Sandy
Took eight to make her randy
And all I had was shandy
Another thing with Sandy
What often came in handy
Was passing her a mandy
She didn't half go bandy

So, you ask Joyce and Vicky
If I ever took the mickey
I'm not a flipping thicky
I'm Billericay Dickie
And I'm doing very well

I'd rendez-vous with Janet
Quite near the Isle of Thanet
She looked more like a gannet
She wasn't half a prannet
Her mother tried to ban it
Her father helped me plan it
And when I captured Janet
She bruised her pomegranate

Oh, you ask Joyce and Vicky
If I ever shaped up tricky
I'm not a blooming thicky
I'm Billericay Dickie
And I'm doing very well

You should never hold a candle
If you don't know where it's been
The jackpot is in the handle
On a normal fruit machine

So, you ask Joyce and Vicky
Who's their favourite brickie
I'm not a common thicky
I'm Billericay Dickie
And I'm doing very well

I know a lovely old toe-rag
Obliging and noblesse
Kindly, charming shag from Shoeburyness
My given name is Dickie
I come from Billericay
I thought you'd never guess

So, you ask Joyce and Vicky
A pair of squeaky chickies
I'm not a flaming thicky
I'm Billericay Dicky
And I'm doing very well

Oh golly, oh gosh
Come and lie on the couch
With a nice bit of posh
From Burnham-on-Crouch
My given name is Dickie
I come from Billericay
And I ain't a slouch

So, you ask Joyce and Vicky
About Billericay Dickie
I ain't an effing thicky
You ask Joyce and Vicky
I'm doing very well

A question for y'all:

Has there ever been a musician more under-appreciated than Warren Zevon? Because I don't think there is. Outside the US and Canada, Zevon is only known to a really tiny group of listeners, and even over here he never really got the appreciation he deserved. If it weren't for Letterman, I doubt that anyone would still talk about him at all. Breaks my heart.
He did have his demons for sure. I believe that they may have held him back. I saw him several times, the last time at the Roxy on Sunset Strip, sober and on top of his game. Very small venue. He was great.... His last album "The Wind" is incredibly good. He recorded it knowing that his end was near.... I listen to it often.

My experience with phone app dbSPL meter software is also very hit and miss, although the paid calibrated version of Audio Tools by Studio Six seems to correspond with actual dbSPL meter readings in factories where I have used it. I suppose it all depends on what your intention is: if you are taking critical measurement readings for designing loudspeakers or something,, I suggest not using any phone and get an actual dedicated tool. If you are taking general OSHA-type background noise level readings or playing around in your home with your audio system, then use whatever you like. :)

John Prine comes to mind
I just salvaged many of his early albums when I was cleaning vinyl. I always liked some of his work with Steve Goodman. Both were from the Chicago area. I am not a huge fan of country music but I loved Prine's lyrics.

I was just going to say that this thread needs more Zevon
