One does what one can. I need to start creating space in my shop so this build allowed me to use up some excess parts. I am hoping my wife gets tired of doing pottery so I can take over the shed I gave her.

I'm confused... I thought bcowen says double walled cardboard is best?
I think maple is best for other people, I believe he does like the processed wood products.

Finnegan is helping me unpack what may well be my last shipment from Russia. I ordered things 2.5 months ago prior to the current issues over there. Some of you are familiar with Melz 1578’s, I was lucky enough to get some variations from 1954 and 1955 to add to my collection as well as other needed electronics. Only the best for Finnegan, this is a serious cardboard box.

Ok, now that we're talking vinyl, I recently had the opportunity to consolidate my extended family's LP collection (most were heading to Goodwill!) and am jonesing to listen to them - as well as my own collection from my youth.

Two questions:

(1) Any opinions on the Dual CS 518 as a "starter" turntable. Not as an endgame acquisition but something decent. Growing up, we had a Dual turntable. Nostalgia has to count for something.

(2) What are the well-regarded online sources to purchase new/used LPs? I haven't purchased any vinyl since the early '80s. It seems that things have changed!

Thanks!
I recently discovered b&o which have fantastic isolation. IIRC so did old type Dual. Don't know the new Dual brand. $799 is a lot for the included cartridge, you can get a Fluance with a Ortofon Blue for $500, though the Dual looks to have a much better tone arm. And '78 if that's a thing. I think you could do a little better and a lot worse.

We are missing a trick here. Why are fuses not in our discussion?

"and I'm sure there are skeptics out there like I was, but holy smokes what a difference these Synergistic Research Purple fuses make. I tried one in my Pass Labs amp first and then a few weeks later another in my PS Audio DAC. Significant improvements in both components and I was already happy with my system. Deeper, tighter bass, textured mids, and crystalline highs without any edginess. Everything just sounds more "right". Anyone calling this snake oil has unquestionably never tried them. Pricey for a fuse for sure, but a small fraction of what I spent on my system. And my Pendragons are highly capable of revealing the improvements."

I shall be off replacing my fuses directly!
