Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

As I have said hundreds of times on this and other forums, the most important component in any audio system lies between the listener's ears.  It is all about perception.

It's true. Most people do forget to clean the wax out of their ears...

The cerumen damping in the outer ear canal is a well known natural transducer mod to smooth out the treble spikes and other assorted non-linear frequency response bumps.

So you're saying I can forget about this HD800 modding business and just stop cleaning my ears for the same effect?

Those in the modding community have known for a while now that adding a bit of cotton can do wonders.

It will come in two models:-

The trowel

The scoop

And, perhaps, later - this classical design

Just read an article on bbc.com where it says: "Prof Saeed has noticed that ear wax does sometimes get darker as we age - and that men whose ears get noticeably hairier as they age sometimes find that the wax can't escape through this jungle of hair." So we have now double-modding possibilities, cerumen and ear hair.

In the results from a recent ear test, I found that I do not have an acoustic reflex. That was the first time I had ever heard of such a thing! But, apparently, it is there to stiffen the ear's response and attenuate loud noise.

MY ENT guy says not to worry, lots of people don't have it, but yes, this could be a reason that I can't stand high volume.

This is all I could afford in 1981:

Nakamichi was price wise out of reach for me. But the Yamaha sounded great for sure.

Hey all,

I just wanted to give you a heads up that I won't be at RMAF CanJam this year. I really would have liked to go, but somehow I managed to pick up a case of pneumonia. So, even if I am fully recovered and feeling fine by RMAF, I am told that running around and finding possible new respiratory infections to meet is not a great idea.

On the plus side:

1. You get Mike at the show, who will have an announcement on the digital side of things.
2. You may get an extra chapter or two out of me on Schiit Happened, since I don't have much to do while I'm recovering and I am already bored out of my mind.
3. And of course you get Tony, Denise, and possibly more of the crew.

Beyond that, with any luck, I will have one more announcement before the end of the year (hopefully not another illness...you know what I mean!)

All the best,
Jason

Feel better Jason.

1-3 are all excellent, but #1 is definitely most exciting
