Does the room slide out or the roof slide back? And you know it is serious when the telescope is large enough it has to mount to the floor.
Telescope? Whew. I thought that was some kind of ray gun or something. And worse, it's pointed towards @Ripper2860 's house. Or better, depending on perspective.

I need to stay away from this thread, it's making me feel depressingly old. I used a slide rule in high school and college... you calculator kids can stay off my lawn.
It is OK to be old. This thread is the proof.

PS
I am not old, at least I don’t feel old. My son says otherwise 😜

If your son is 60, then you're kind of old.:laughing:

Nah, my gear only receives, it doesn't transmit.

The roof slides off. There are other designs which have the entire building rolling away from the scope and mount. I have two other mounts which I use on portable tripods. Building the observatory allows me to keep one of my scopes permanently set up and ready to go. The pier is far steadier than a tripod, stays put and doesn't have legs splayed out for me to trip on in the dark.

My observatory also gives me a place where I can tinker with projects I would never try at home. Like installing hard wood flooring. It's been exhausting, but mostly fun and quite satisfying.
I should have noticed the wheels in the photo, tells me I was reading & commenting on too many design basis documents today.

A brief diversion, but don't worry there will be a smidgen of slightly Schiit related content. I've been working on my "other hobby den". Starting at the end of February my observatory looked like this:

I'm nearly finished with my project, and my observatory now looks like this:

And now for the slightly Schiit related content: the new home for my Loki is likely here, on top of that little silver box (a Musical Fidelity A90-AMP):

A SchiitSchmidt?

Richard Thompson...1952 Vincent Black Lightning followed by
Old Crow Medicine Show's Wagon Wheel

6sn7 of choice is a 1961 Melz 1578 combined with a Tung Sol 5998, my Gungnir will most likely sound better after I run it all day but it is decent for now.

Today I am just building a shelf whose trim will match an amp I put together for my wife. Just plywood and tiger maple so as to match other woodwork in her studio.
I love that Richard Thompson track @Paladin79 :relaxed:

I love several of his songs. The other song "Wagon Wheel" was something Dylan wrote the chorus for and to which Ketch Secor of OCMS added lyrics.
