So this will have to go in the back yard?

Not to mention a tub of PCB oil for convective cooling or if you don't like messy oil, a supersonic blower for forced air cooling.

I have an amp with 9 tubes. It does indeed get warm. But the glow from all those tubes is so alluring. 😃

Can you imagine the heat a 10 tube amp would put out? You’d have to run your air conditioner at 60°.

Pffft. A small price to pay.

Don't make us take your tube amp aficionado card away. :smirk:

BTW - I have 10 desk lamps with 100w bulbs setup in my room just to get acclimated ahead of a purchase. :D

I’m going to have a space soon where I can listen without earphones, and at first I’m just going to run the XLR preamp outs from my Jotunheim to a power amp I’ve got driving some very old Infinity bookshelf speakers.

They have 8” cones, so they won’t need as much bass reinforcement as some bookshelf speakers, but I figure I should still run RCA from the SE outputs to a powered subwoofer.

What I’m wondering is whether there are problems that might arise from having the two XLR channels running to the power amp in stereo while just running a single RCA to a subwoofer.

Yes, but winter is coming where I live so...

I have a 9 tube amp.
(4) KT120
(3) 12AU7
(2) 12AX7

It's a great amp to use in the winter

Yep, they get warm but with A/C register on the floor blowing cool air into my amp its good to go.
Mine goes all the way to 14. Tubes that is. 2 matched Quads of KT88's and 6 x 12AU7's
2 matched quads of 150's may be in my future. I'll set the thermostat to 59 degrees, that should do it.

this should work just fine, unless the amplifier has very low impedance xlr inputs. do you have a spec or mfr / model number?

. note that for Jotunheim specifically (which is weakly differential), switching between the XLR and SE inputs may require adjustment of the subwoofer's gain.
