Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I am doing some preliminary setup on a device I just built to honor ORT and his love of VU meters. I have not figured out the labeling I want to use yet but it shall be the ORT Gandalf. This is one of a kind, except for a smaller version I will build for my mini rack. They are NOT something I would sell or build for anyone else.
When completed I will be able to check various levels though out this system and it will be switchable between four stereo inputs and there will be at least four outputs so that I do not give up any outputs on existing gear.
Not as good looking as yours, but very functional!

I was thinking about giving my just-turned 16 year old son my Modi Multibit (replaced in my rig by a Bifrost 2) and my Vali 2. I asked him a few weeks ago if he was interested in his own HP setup, and he said "Sure, as long as it doesn't have any of those grandpa-old tube things sticking out the top." So I disowned him.
Someone I know locally (much younger than me) arranged an audio meet-up yesterday. Most of the other attendees, a tube-fanatic bunch -- serious space-heater stuff for custom speakers -- looked even older than me :astonished: Your son sees it too...

Not as fancy as @Paladin79 creation, but it works.

The picture is still conspicuous by its absence. ??

And Sam, you gotta do something about that avatar photo. Someone threw up on it at the bottom right. :stuck_out_tongue::stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

The specs for the Heresy indicate 14vac, so it seems that would be a safe choice from the Cthulu (assuming you have the 14v lead available). One of the 16v leads may work too, but I'd verify with @Jason Stoddard or Schiit first myself.

I’m Pretty sure Jason said earlier in this thread that Modi and Magni can use the 14 and 16 VAC wall warts interchangeably, BUT you’d still want to use the beefier one with Magni as not to have it run out of juice..

Ah, found it:

I am well aware of your love for GE tubes, but, in the power category GE had a winner in the 6550A, a sort of beefed-up 6550.

LOL! OK, you got me there. I can't slag a tube I've never heard. :relaxed:

And I like the VU meters. Quite cool!

I built it about 5 months ago. I have another to build with larger [and older] meters.

Very nice Sam. I am in the middle of a build that will be more practical.

Luckily I now have access to a small local business that does a lot of metal working, my next builds are going to require it. Power tubes will be 6080 equivalent to go with some various 6sn7's. 9 inch by 12 inch metal plates that will need 18 or more cutouts, I will leave that to someone with a CNC machine. One day I will send one of the amps to Bill to check out since he is fond of tube gear.
